Destin is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 753,711 as of the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Miami-Dade County by land area and the second largest city by population after Miami. The metropolitan area covers all or part of eleven counties in South Florida and had a total population of 2,673,545 as of mid-2015. The name " Destin" comes from French for "the place where dolphins sleep." The first settlement at what is now Destin dates to 1837 when Spanish soldiers founded a post on an island near modern day Causeway Bay. In 1851, the town was moved from its original site to what is now downtown because it became too swampy to be useful as a trading post. The present day downtown area was built around two large steamboats that were used by shipping companies during World War II: the SS Alabama and USS Houston (CVA-8). sunk in 1945 while under tow from Key West to Jacksonville, they lay at anchor offshore until 1959 when they were raised and restored and put back into service as cruise ships again. In 1961, Disney purchased adjacent property along Five Mile Beach for $2 million which would become their new theme park called Walt Disney World Resort (now known as Magic Kingdom). This allowed them to build almost immediately next door – acrossamentally – both Disneyland Park and MarvelousLand - giving visitors over two dozen separate parks in one place! Today's Walt Disney World Resort comprises three main areas: Downtown Disney | Epcot | Hollywood Studios - making it one of the most complex theme park complexes in North America!
Air force gift history goes back to World War II when the United States began purchasing strategic bombers. These planes were used for bombing and reconnaissance missions. The first bomber planes were purchased in 1941, and by 1945, over 350 of these planes had been purchased. It was during this time that the air force began developing a gift program for its generals and other senior military officials. This gift program was called the AFGift Program. The first gifts that were given out from the AFGift Program were airplane tickets and bonds. In 1951, an AFGift Program charity auctioned off a Boeing 707 aircraft to supportOperation Dixie which was then being conducted in Korea. The plane was donated by Boeing themselves and it flew to Seoul with a delegation of American businessmen to collect money for relief purposes. In 1957, another Boeing 707 aircraft was donated by Boeing themselves in order to supportOperation Arrowhead which was being conducted in Panama at the time. The plane flew with American soldiers and commanders on board who collected money for restoration projects along with providing humanitarian aid to local villagers. In 1961, another Boeing 707 also became available through the AFGift Program when it was donated by Lamar Advertising Company’s CEO Lamar Hunt Sr.. It served as a transport jet nicknamed “Cockpit of Peace” which transported American guests and dignitaries around Latin America during Expo ’62 held in Mexico City. In 1969, yet another Boeing 707 aircraft became available through theAFGiftProgramwhen itwasdonatedbytheUnitedStatesAirlines Corporation’sCEODonald Trump Jr.. This plane served as both an airlineranda presidentialplaneduring hisfatherDonald Trump’spoliticalcampaignforPresidentoftheUnited Statesin2016). It is interesting to note that all of these gifts have had one common goal: To help improve the morale of military personnel across globe or war zones!
