At this point in time many Americans were comfortable owning handguns not just for self-defense but also for target practice or general circulation within any given community (Gonzalez & Pyle). Consequently, the demand for new pistols to meet these new security needs decreased significantly; however, custom built pistols still continued to be produced throughout this time period (Boothroyd). Gun manufacturers responded by production increases on standard designs instead of innovative new models (Snyder). In fact, pistol design stayed relatively stagnant until about 1960-1965 when automatic pistols replaced manual action rifles as the most popular type of handgun (Dixon). Deltona, Florida is a town in Sebastian County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,561 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach-Daytona Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Deltona was John Thornton in 1848. He and his family built a cabin on Fort Walton Island and named it Thornton's Point after him. By 1860, there were around 60 settlers living in Deltona. A post office was established in 1861 and remained open until 1971. In 1892, Captain George Withers purchased land east of downtown Deltona from J.C. Bigham for $1,000 with the intent of developing it into a town site that could be called "Deltona". The townsite was surveyed by Jens Wilhelm Hagerty and opened to public occupancy on November 3rd, 1893 with about 100 residents present; however development did not proceed as planned due to lack of money or support from local leaders. A fire destroyed much of the town center on May 5th 1897 which caused heavy damage but also forced many residents to leave their homes and move into more affordable neighborhoods outside of town limits; this event is generally recognized as being one of the most important catalysts for growth within the community over ensuing years。 The original name given to the new city by its founders – "Severn" – soon became obsolete when most everyone who moved there already had a hometown designation like Daytona or Ormond Beach (or even just Sanford). In 1912 Severn changed its name to Deltona after then-Governor David Haines proclaimed it an official U .S . county seat.—Initially known as simply "Del", this decision marked only the third time in American history that a metropolitan area had been split along partisan lines (the others being New York City and Baltimore). At first little transpired beyond occasional car races at Bayfront Park or some benevolent social events at private residences; however word spread through various means about potential business opportunities available inside this newly minted county seat.—Many companies which made their fortunes during prohibition opted not to set up shop right next door because they knew law enforcement would be keeping an eye on them.—Some decided early on not to expand due to concerns that prohibition might eventually be repealed—in fact it actually stayed off the books until 1933 when Volstead laws were passed leading directly thereto.—Nowadays you can catch glimpses of former speakeasies hidden among modern shopping malls all across central FL.; numerous small businesses have taken root here without any government assistance while large corporations have left behind ghost towns scattered throughout rural areas all across southcentral FL.: indeed today there are few if any places where you cannot find evidence that America's once thriving liquor industry once functioned: Prohibition ended nearly 75 years ago but DelTONA shows no sign whatsoever of abating
