Deltona, Florida is home to one of the oldest and most well-known artisan coffee brands in the United States. The Deltona Coffee Company was founded in 1915 by Angelo A. DeAngelo and his wife, Clara. The company was acquired by Starbucks in 1998. The DeAngelo family has been involved in coffee since the early 1900s. Angelo's father, Giovanni, started a small grocery store near downtown Deltona with just six shelves of beans and two machines to roast them himself. In 1915, Angelo A.'s sister-in-law founded the first Italian espresso house in Daytona Beach with four espresso machines. The Deangelos soon realized that they had a unique opportunity to develop their own bean roasting and brewing process - they used slow roasted whole beans rather than processed beans bought from other companies. This allowed them to develop a better flavor profile for their coffee while also ensuring that each cup was hand-selected and carefully packaged. In 1998, Starbucks purchased the Deltona Coffee Company for $2 million dollars; at that point, it was one of the largest acquisitions ever made by Starbucks. At its inception, Starbucks intended to utilizing the Deltona Coffee Company's legacy as an "accelerator" for its new Seattle based headquarters: "We were really looking for something we could use as an example of how we can do things more efficiently here at Starbuck's," said director of roasting Jeff Schultz at the time (Schultz would later become CEO). However, due to recessionary pressures and increased competition from Dunkin' Donuts Chain restaurant chains throughout America, only a limited number of bags per day were produced before being discontinued in 2006 due to economic reasons Alone produces about 3200 pounds per week which meets all regulatory requirements

Deltona is a city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 34,853 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. It is named for General John Delton (1756–1828), who fought in the American Revolutionary War and later served as commander in chief of Florida's Seminole Wars. The city was founded by settlers from Georgia in 1837 and briefly incorporated as a town before becoming an unincorporated community on December 17, 1837. It became a city on November 8, 1907. The name "Deltona" comes from both Deltonshire (in England) and Deltona (in Spanish). The original white settlers were General John Delton's descendants and they traveled there to purchase land which they would use for farming and plantation work. A post office was established at Deltona on October 15, 1838; it remained open until 1959. In 1881, William Henson built a water tower which still stands today as one of the earliest examples of public water service in Palm Beach County. In 1912 he donated land to the City of Deltona for parkland that now includes most of downtown along with several blocks south of State Road 705 near US 1/F Expressway A1A. These lands were annexed by Palm Beach County in 1932 when it formed from smaller communities within Monroe County east of Lake Worth Avenue between I-95 and SR 755/SR 925 bypassing downtown Deltona altogether
