De Land is a small town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Palm Bay-Fort Pierce area. The De Land community was founded in 1887 by Danish immigrants who named it after their landowner, Jens De La Lande. The Danish settlers were in search of a new home after leaving their homeland during the Finnish revolution of 1809. They arrived on horseback and wagon and built log homes on plots that they had acquired from local landowners. The first church was organized in 1889 and served the newly settled community until 1910 when a brick church was erected with funds provided by Mrs. Hilda Siderstrom (1860-1941). In 1905, school began for students grades one through twelve. A two-room schoolhouse served as the only building until 1912 when an addition was constructed to house a third room which became the deLand High School annex from 1914 to 1968; this building also housed the post office from 1913 to 1918 and 1927 to 1936; it burned down on December 9, 1928. The present day De Land community originated with white farmers who purchased land around 1800 near what is now Miami Beach Boulevard and Indian River Boulevard; these early settlers created farms that produced corn, cotton, soybeans and other crops while also enjoying hunting and fishing opportunities off the Gulf Coast shorelines. By 1900 most of these pioneer families had left for similar reasons: development within Palm Bay itself made life difficult enough without additional competition from newcomers! One hundred years later many residents recall growing up just east of DeLand along Flagler Avenue where shopping centers such as Sears & Roebuck occupied much of what is now I-95 southbound between US 1/2 northbound and US 4/5 westbound; today’s eastern edge includes businesses including Publix Super Markets (now Kroger) as well as adjacent residential areas that have since been replaced by strip malls or shopping centres housing department stores such as Macy’s or Sears etc.; however Main Street still remains largely rural with few commercial buildings except for one grain elevator which still stands atop nearby Bald Mountain looking out over mostly open farmland! Today’s downtownDeLand contains several interesting historical sites: the old jail which has been restored to its original condition; an old Masonic temple used by DeLand Lodge #3A American Legion Post #4A during prohibition days when alcohol could not be bought openly anywhere else but at saloons ; an auto garage originally operated by Caufield Motors located on Agricultural Road close to where US 1&US 4 intersection now exists ; finally there are several restaurants providing great food options throughout most parts of town including chains like Subway sandwich shops plus locally owned restaurants known for their fresh ingredients etc.; indeed much has changed since those early days but some things never change – namely people’s love for good food!

De Land is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,557 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Lake Buena Vista Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in De Land were some Frenchmen who arrived in 1763 and built a small cabin on the east side of the Town Lake. A plaque on a hill overlooking the lake commemorates this early settler group. In 1818, George Washington purchased land in what is now DeLand from Major Pierre Lafitte for $5,000. Washington set up a home and store here and named it after his homeland – Ireland (then called Ulster). This was De Land's first permanent European settlement and it soon became an important center for clothiers, farmers, lumberjacks, bankers and others involved in early central Florida trade. In 1840 DeLand had 9 resident families out of a population of 150; by 1850 it had over 200 residents! The town's growth was due to its strategic location near both Interstate 4 (the main north-south artery through central Florida) and two major waterways: the St Johns River to the west and Lake Buena Vista to the east. By 1870 DeLand boasted 10 public buildings including two schools – one elementary school operated by subscription from citizens while another high school opened as part of a larger program initiated by Governor John Mackculloch that year resulting in more than doubling enrollment at both schools within five years! In 1892 Miami Beach annexed DeLand making it its second most populous municipality behind Fort Myers! After 50 years as one of Sanford County’s three towns – with only 2 percent growth rate during that time period – during 1965 annexation all but 15 percent of its original citizens moved away when Daytona Beach annexed it! All told since then about 75% of people living within town limits today are descended from those original settlers who met here 55+ years ago! There have been many local events throughouttowns history which can be listed below: fire chief election; carnival; centennial celebration; municipal referendum on annexation into city [1978]; golf tournament benefit breakfast given by PGA TOUR Champions such as Henrik Stenson & Phil Mickelson; demolition derby among many others just to name a few examples
De Land was founded in 1836 by General James De Land as a citrus plantation. In 1861, the town became part of Jacksonville, Florida during the American Civil War. The cotton industry declined after the war and De Land lost its status as a town. It regained its position as an agricultural community following World War II.
