In 1984 Landa announced plans to move all his business operations into an iconic building on State Road 7 near what is now Sears Point Naval Air Station after purchasing property north of town from United States Navy personnel during World War II . This massive structure gradually came to be known as “The BeanHouse” and has been used by La Caja de Comercio de Puerto Rico (RCCP), Starbucks Corporation (SBUX), Roca Produce Inc., Dunkin' Donuts Corporation (DNKN) since its opening in 1984. Today it houses more than 150 businesses including several hundred specialty retailers that sell items related specifically to Caribbeans such as Jarritos Negroes , Ponce Negras , y Toro y Cuba . Daytona Beach was founded on November 12, 1875, by J.P. Morgan and his partners in the Florida East Coast Railway Company. The city's name was chosen to honor General James K. Polk, who had won the United States presidential election of 1860 from the Republican party on a platform of modernization of the country. The original town site was at Daytona Beach Harbor on Daytona Beach's east side and consisted of just a few homes and businesses. The first permanent residents were white Americans who came to work on the railroad or vacation in the beach town during that era. In 1876, two years after it was founded, Daytona Beach became an incorporated municipality with a population of about 100 people. At that time, it was one of only three towns in Florida not governed by a mayor or council system like those found in most American cities at that time. In 1896, Daytona Beach voters passed a referendum authorizing annexation by Miami-Dade County as part of that county's plan to become more metropolitanized.
