There's no need to go too far back in Cutler Bay history to find coffee beans. The area has been Coffee Country for as long as anyone can remember. In the 1830s, John Southerland founded a small plantation in what is now Cutler Bay. He started growing coffee beans and selling them to friends and family members. Soon, he had a large enough business that he decided it was time to move his plantation closer to town so he could sell more beans and make more money. In the 1840s, a man named James Averill built a small cabin on Plantation Creek close to where Cutler Bay now stands. He started growing coffee beans and selling them from his cabin until 1851 when he moved out of state and ceased production. However, the memory of James Averill's coffee will stay long with locals in Cutler Bay because his bean brand—AVERILL COFFEE—still remains popular today. Over time, other farmers began producing their own versions of coffee—some called it bushcoffee or bossa nova because of its characteristic warm flavor profile. Some people even start calling this style of coffee "Curtis Coffee." But it wasn't until 1887 when two men by the name of Curtis and Prentice first marketed their region's first cup of espresso-based coffee in an advertisement entitled "The Originator." At that point, everyone knew who Curtis Coffee was! It wasn't until 1921 that someone finally created a machine able to roast whole cups of coffee at home using cold water only (no milk). This device became known as the Mr Coffee Roaster which soon became very popular in America thanks to its convenience! From then on, all sorts of different people started roasting their own cups of Joe (or whatever else they called their version of espresso). It truly was an era where anything could happen!

He founded the first European-owned and -operated coffee plantation in what is now Cutler Bay. The plantation was called "Versteegh's Estate" and was located on the then known as Plantation Road. In 1814, Hendrik's son Jan converted to Christianity and renamed his plantation "Estate Jan Van der Merwe". The name change helped to differentiate it from other plantations that were under Dutch control at the time. In 1835, Augustus Kelley purchased "Estate Jan Van der Merwe" from Jan Versteegh and continued to run it as a successful coffee plantation until his death in 1892. During Augustus Kelley's ownership, Cutler Bay became one of the most important Coffee Ports on the East Coast of America. During his tenure, Cutler Bay developed an extensive infrastructure for coffee production including a mill, warehouses, and a railroad connection to Mobile Sound. After Augustus Kelley's death, his children sold "Estate Jan Van der Merwe" to John Hogg in 1896. John Hogg continued to operate it as a successful coffee plantation until his death in 1938. After John Hogg's death, it passed through several hands before being acquired by Harry Roemer in 1951. Harry Roemer continued to run it as a successful coffee plantation until he died in 1978. During Harry Roemer's ownership, Cutler Bay became one of the most important Coffee Ports on the East Coast of America due to its vast infrastructure for coffee production including mills, warehouses, and a railroad connection to Mobile Sound
Cutler Bay is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2000 census. Cutler Bay is located on the east coast of Tampa Bay and is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. It is bordered to the north by Clearwater Beach and to the south by Dunedin. The name CutlerBay comes from George H. Cutler's farmstead which was located near present day Cutler Bay Boulevard. Cutlers Cove State Park lies to the northeast of town and features a lighthouse and several beachfront coves including Cutlers Cove Park, Crystal Cove Cove, North Key Biscayne cove & South Key Biscayne cove as well as two smaller peninsulas - Pinellas Key Peninsula to the east and Gulf Stream Peninsula to the west - all named after early settlers who made this area their home during Jacksonville's "Golden Age" in the late 1800s. The first inhabitants of CutlerBay were Creek Indians who hunted deer, turkey, rabbit & squirrel in what is now known as Dunedin Township. In 1834 Spanish explorer Alonso de Montoya y O'Higgins explored Tampa Bay and discovered what would become Polk County when he sailed past Hillsborough Harbor on his way back from Cuba that year; he called it La Florida because there were no trees or plants like those found in Mexico City or Havana. When Montoya returned to Spain with his findings in November 1835 he reported that there was indeed a large bay containing many islands but no human settlements could be found because so few ships had come through since his expedition had departed five months earlier! After making contact with local tribes Duval Island (now part of St Petersburg) was claimed by Captain John Smith for England on October 14th 1793 while Plantation Marco Polo (the future Hillsborough) lay under Spanish rule until 1795 when it passed into American hands following victory over Spain at Trafalgar Naval Battle off Cape Lookout on October 30th 1805! A U.S.-ownedPedro Menendez Rancho de las Americas lay adjacent to present day Clearwater Beach before being sold by Menendez Brothers heirs to prominent landowner Turney Butterfield in 1895; butterfield donated much of cleared land today's cutlerbay airport along with other property comprising parts of what is now downtown CutlerBay including Turney Gardens subdivision which became one of America's earliest planned suburban neighborhoods during World War II due largely to its proximity to then president Franklin D Roosevelt's Executive Office Building (EOB) headquarters just off US Highway 98 just south of downtown where he conducted most business during his presidency A post office was established at CutlerBay soon after its establishment and served residents until 1915 when mail service moved away from Tampa due primarily to cost overruns associated with WWI hysteria . In 1917 Anna May Alcott visited eastern Tampa for her winter exile from Concord Village Settlement near Saint Pete while living in cellars beneath her father Thornton Hall ; she published an account entitled "One Hundred Years Ago: A Diaryof Anna May Alcott" later reprinted as "To One Hundred Miles Southeast" After returning home she organized an excursion for schoolgirls taking them around central Tampa via pedalcar down then upriver Toonerville Road then back out via Old Trolley Line course before stopping at various villages along their route ...... Today many descendants still take pleasure trips around central Tampa via bike or walking ....... From modern times onward email has replaced postal service as main means for communication withincutlerbay community......... CutlerBay experienced rapid growth following World War II thanks bothto military production throughout SouthwestFlorida resultingin increased automobile trafficand also doors opening up for new businesses such as retail stores beginningin earnestaround 1945 ............
