Belle Glade is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. Belle Glade is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The population was 8,993 at the 2010 census. It is located on State Highway 431 south of Jacksonville and west of Miami. Belle Glade was settled in 1892 by J.C. Belleglade, who named it for his daughter Belle (baptized Belle Raisin). In 1904, Gussie Ewing purchased land adjacent to what is now Belle Glade from J.C. Belleglade and developed it into a small community with homes, businesses, schools and churches. In 1926, Gussie's son Clyde Ewing donated land to the town for its library and park which became known as The Grove Park Campus of Jacksonville University (now UFJ). The first post office in Belle Glade opened on March 3rd 1898 under the name "Grosse Pointe". On July 1st 1928, it was renamed "Belle Glade" following the donation by Clyde Ewing of .
