The Aventura Army National Guard was organized on November 10, 1942 as a result of the United States entering World War II. At its peak, the Aventura Army National Guard had an enrollment of over 12,000 soldiers. The unit was redesignated the Aventura Infantry Battalion on December 1, 1945 and then again on October 15, 1951 as the Aventura Infantry Regiment. The regiment served in Korea from 1951-1953 and was honorably discharged there with distinction. In 1954, the unit reorganized into companies and was redesignated as battalion companies. On July 1st, 1978 the regiment was reactivated as a brigade infantry regiment under command of 3rd Brigade Division (Majors) and assigned to 2nd Brigade Combat Team (1st LtCols), 5th Infantry Division (Lt Cols). From September 1 through December 20th 1978 it supported Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia while deployed along I Corps’ southern flank near Riyadh. On November 14th 1990 AventurasArmy National Guard lost its only combat engagement when Company E3/5 AFCN lost contact with friendly forces during operations “Olive Branch” Support Element attached to units 9th Armoured Cavalry Brigade; 11th Armored Cav Battalion; 4th Marine Bde at Sheik Abdullah Air Base enroute to Kuwait for Operation Neptune Spear against Iraqi forces troop concentrations that weekend. In 1839, another developer named Valentine Ewing founded Martinique Dry Goods in an area between downtown and Universal City Boulevard. In 1840, Captain John Fetterman chartered the Floridian Steamboat Company with four boats to travel upriver to St Petersburg from Venice Gulf to sell goods exiled Cuban refugees during their rule of Cuba by General Santiago de Cuba. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Aventura on July 4, 1839: José María del Carmen Menendez y Uribe from Havana; Antonio Meneses from San Lorenzo de las Americas; Manuel García from Cerritos; Andrés Gomez from Hialeah; Pedro Rivera also known as Pedro Ramos whose family had owned land at Boca Raton since 1693; Antonio López Real whose father had come to America in 1768 as part of Juan Rodriguez Expedition under Admiral Carlos D'Escobar who settled at Belle Glade); Francisco Moreno Carpio who came aboard USS Constitution captained by Commodore George Dewey off Key West on November 1st 1841; Augustín Núñez de la Selva who disembarked his vessel Santa Catarina with his slaves along with twenty other men at Cape May Bay October 8th 1841 while he was looking for new land north of Havana where he planned to establish a cotton plantation as well as build a mill which would process sugarcane flour into cash money) led by Captain John Fetterman who became owner/operator of Floridian Steamboat Company starting February 9th 1840 until its demise due to yellow fever pandemic December 20th 1840). This group Included future governor of Florida Manuel López de Santa Anna y Costilla (1846-1848), mayor José Bracamonte (1850-1851), lawyer Alcide DeSoto (1852-1856), military generalísimo Agustín Ventura(squaloried March 3rd 1861)and doctor Nicolás Maduro Ruiz’s brother Angel Vázquez Díaz Tapia’s physician Dr Basilio Martinez Trujillo’s friend Nuño Sánchez who served as surgeon on USS Constitution under Commodore George Dewey off Key West from November 5th 1861 until January 1863).
