Naugatuck, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 18,581 at the 2010 census. Naugatuck is part of the New Haven–Hartford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Naugatuck was Nicholas Trimble in 1634. In 1764 it became part of Hartford County and was named after the ancient city of Naxos on the Mediterranean Sea. Naugatuck's initial growth came from its location as an agricultural center due to its fertile soils and easy access to water supplies. Manufacturing played a major role in Naugatuck's economy until the late 20th century when it largely shifted to services such as health care and education. Today, many businesses remain here including Wetherbee Paper Co., which has been based here since 1801; Pinnacle Software Group; American Water Works Company; and Stamford-based Stonington Lumber & Mfg., Inc.. The town also contains a number of interesting historical sites that are open to the public such as Old Lyme Inn (now closed), Founders' Meeting House (1764), Palmer House (1810), Blacksmith Shop (1696), and Rivington Schoolhouse (1743).

Naugatuck, Connecticut is a town in western Connecticut. The population was 5,014 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in the Naugatuck Valley region of eastern Connecticut and one of its most populous towns. The first permanent settler in what is now Naugatuck was Nicholas Carew, who arrived in 1664. Naugatuck grew rapidly from the early 1800s until 1840 when it lost its status as an agricultural center to New Haven due to overpopulation and land shortage. In 1881, lumber magnate Simeon Gould moved his family to Naugatuck from Waterbury, CT after purchasing much of that town's property. The Gould family would stay here for many years before moving back out into Waterbury in 1951 following Simeon's death. In 1815, John Smith founded Smithtown on the east bank ofthe Raritan River south of modern day Hartford. Smithtown became a village in 1827 and then a town in 1830 under the name EastHartford. On October 17th, 1836, EastHartford merged with neighboring North Hartford to form what is now known as Naugatuck. At this time there were only ten residents within what are today’s boundaries of Naugatuck: six men and four women living on Main Street (now Route 9), two small mills on Tryon Road (now Route 50), and one farm west of present-day Old Bridge Road (now Route 11). NaugatUCKS total area was just over 2 square miles at its peak but has since shrunk by over 100% due to suburban growth and loss of agricultural land between downtown and rural areas around it! Today, downtown offers a mix of retail businesses including several clothing stores as well as higher-end restaurants such as Daniel Boulud’s French Laundry & Cafe or Carpaccio Italian Grill; while all around rural areas there are small farms with~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~farmers markets~~~ throughout year

In 1814, Naugatuck was incorporated as a municipality. During the 1800s, Naugatuck experienced significant growth in both population and economy. In 1836, the first railroad arrived in Naugatuck, helping to spur increased economic development. Today, Naugatuck is an important center for research and innovation in the agricultural and engineering sectors.
