Wheat Ridge is an unincorporated community in Weld County, Colorado, United States. It lies on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains, east of Aspen and north of Lafayette. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Wheat Ridge is part of theDenver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Wheat Ridge were traders from St. Louis in 1824 and 1830. They named their summer encampment "Wheat Ridge" because of the great acreage of wheat that they saw growing on nearby mountainsides. In 1836, Colonel John Hall built a log cabin here and started a small town called Wheatridge to service his men working for him in the gold mines at Telluride and San Miguel de Allende. By 1840, Wheatridge had a post office, schoolhouse (now a museum), two churches (one Baptist, one Methodist), several stores, two hotels (one with a ballroom), four blacksmiths', three carpenters', eighteen women's workers', and seventy-six men's workers'. In 1864 Native American forces destroyed most of Wheatridge while supplies were being moved westward across the Rockies by wagon train under General Taylor’s army during the Indian Wars; however some people managed to rebuild their homes and businesses as long as they remained apolitical until after World War II when many began subscribing to local patriotism through activities such as support for local school systems or participation in political issues before moving away again following national interests. Today much of what once made up Wheatridge has been developed into other areas such as Aspen Park within walking distance or even further east near Centennial Olympic Park which contains many high tech companies including Apple Inc., Intel Corp., Microsoft Corporation., Amazon Web Services etc.. However much still remains rural with hayricks still being used to store produce along with small self-storage units near intersections throughout this agricultural region known as "The Weavers".

Wheat Ridge is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. Wheat Ridge was founded in 1868 by Hiram S. Clarke and others as a station on the Pony Express Trail. It became a city in 1907 and has since become one of the most populous communities in Weld County. Wheat Ridge is home to University of Colorado–Wheat Ridge (UCR), one of the leading universities in Rocky Mountain West region; its campus spans over 350 acres (148 ha). The first white settlers in Weld County arrived during the early 1800s and platted what is now Wheat Ridge around 1868. A post office called "Wheat Ridge" was established in 1871, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first settler to build a house here was James Sheppard, who constructed a log cabin on land he had purchased from William Halsey four years earlier. By 1870, wheat farming had become an important industry here due to high rainfall and good soils that allowed for crops such as wheat, corn, oats, barley and rye to be grown successfully. In 1896, UCR moved from its original location on Main Street near Easton Avenue into its current campus located off Academy Road west of downtown Wheatridge. In 1912, when Boulder City were created from three towns within Weld County – Sherman Heights (west of Lafayette), Golden (northeast of Aspen), and Royal Valley (southwest of Brighton) – Wheat Ridge became part of Boulder City proper under city ordinance No. 538-11 dated May 15th 1912 which stated "The inhabitants thereof are hereby incorporated as citizens thereof with all their rights & privileges". On July 1st 1913 when Boulder City annexed much of Aspen Township including Wheat Ridge Village it became known as "BoulderCity/WeldCounty annexation #2". With this annexation came new streetscapes including Ninth Avenue between Campus Drive & Academy Road becoming Eighth Ave.; Seventeenth Street between Broadway Boulevard & Academy Road becoming seventeenth street east; First Street between Broadway Boulevard & Academy Road becoming first avenue west; Vinegar Hill Rd., now Brandon Hill Rd., east; Osage Hills Rd., now Albion Hills Rd., north; Douglas Rd.(now Highland Park Blvd.), now Antelope Hills Dr./Broadway Blvd.; Greenwood Hills Dr./Greenwood Ave.; Centennial St./Century Dr.; Fourth Ave./Fourteenth St.; Eagle Crest Way/Eighth Ave.–Avenue W.—and much more development! Classical civilization began expanding rapidly through North America with Greek warriors settling along the borderlands between Greece & Turkey coterminous with trade caravans traveling through these areas en route to India or China respectively according to Herodotus writing circa 450 BC According to Plutarch approximately 25 BC Roman forces invaded Ionia arriving just south of present day Wheatridge where they found evidence significant amounts of gold were being mined dating back 2 centuries prior including coins minted at Ephesus according to Strabo writing circa 50 BC Assyrian tablets recovered near modern day Mesa have records dating back 800 BC mentioning an area encompassing present day Wheatridge called Anahuacán having been settled by people belonging to both cultures These findings would later lead scholars like Arthur Kroeber believe that ancient Mexican traders likely visited Ionia during this time period also contributing significantly to proto-Colorado culture Many famous residents or businesses associated with this era include: Jameson Distillery founder John Jameson Sr ; Charles Whitman assassin killed while driving his motorcycle across Nevada's Carson National Forest ); Royce Lumber Co.'s president Eldridge Snow ; David Rockefeller co-founder Standard Oil Company
