The Steamboat Springs National Guard was first organized in 1892. The unit was then dissolved in 1907. However, it reformed in 1912 as the Steamboat Springs Volunteer Infantry. In 1924, the National Guard was re-formatted and placed into a battalion form within the newly created Colorado National Guardsmen Regiment. In 1946, the regiment became an infantry brigade and again redesignated as the Steamboat Springs Brigade of the Colorado National Guard on January 1, 1947. On September 11, 1951, a brigade sized unit called the 1st Battalion (Heavy) of theSteamboat Springs Brigade was activated and assigned to support United States military operations in Korea. In 1957, due to budget cuts within the U.S government, all national guard units were consolidating into brigades which would be under direct control of state governor's appointees rather than being directly under federal purview. This change left Steamboat Springs with only one battalion of its own brigade size still active within its own guard service

Steamboat Springs, Colorado is a town in Arapaho County, Colorado, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Steamboat Springs originates from two places: "steamboats" which were common on the Platte River in those days and "springs" because of the hot springs that were popular there. The first post office was established in 1868, and the first settler to arrive was J.W. Davenport in 1872. By 1900, Steamboat Springs had a population of 1,500 people and it grew rapidly until World War I when it shrank to its current size due to wartime shortages of water supplies and other factors. However, during World War II the town saw an increase in growth as war production relocated to nearby Fort Kearny Airport; however after the war ended there was a steady decline in business until 1990 when another boom began with new construction projects such as an arena and hotels along Main Street Today Steamboat Springs is known for its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful scenery including Mount Evans National Park (the second highest peak east of the Rocky Mountains), hiking and biking trails around Mount Evans National Monument (the most high peak east of the Rockies), skiing on Aspen Mountain Resort's slopes year-round or during winter months (lift tickets are available for access from May through September), delicious food options including local cafes and restaurants as well as convenience stores located throughout town like 7-Elevens; antique shops; art galleries; theaters; sport complexes such as Horseshoe Casino & Spa which offers gambling services; golf courses including PGA Tour stops atvarious locations within town limits; etc., its vibrant arts scene with several performing arts venues both large scale productions such as The Fiddler on the Roof at Grand Lodge Theatre or smaller shows by various theater companies each season weeknight before bedtime.; plus many small businesses providing unique cultural experiences unique to Steamboat Springs like author readings or glassblowing demonstrations by local artists outside their studios/worker housing during open houses or family day events like Poppin' In For Breakfast where residents gather for breakfast outside their homes for fun!
