In 1907, William Sweeny built the world's first pressed metal water pump - still in use today - at his mill located upstream from where he now stands on Main Street near Cottonwood Creek. He also invented what became known as "Sweeney's Baby", which was a small children's toy that could be inflated with air using a hand crank. Sweeney died suddenly while working on this project just one year after it made its debut; however, it continued production until 1954!
