The Pueblo Colorado Volunteers Infantry Regiment was a unit of the United States army that fought in the Mexican-American War. The regiment was organized on November 15, 1846 and mustered in at Fort Leavenworth on December 1. The regiment served as an infantry brigade in the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division of General John C. Fremont's march to Mexico City in April 1847. He then commanded the brigade during the Siege of Chapultepec and Battle of Buena Vista. On July 8, 1847, he was relieved from command and transferred to duty with First Brigade, Fourth Division under General Manuel Micheltorena in Arizona Territory. In December 1848 he resigned his commission and returned to Pueblo.
Pueblo, Colorado is a small town in the Rocky Mountains of Western Colorado. The population was 3,667 at the 2010 census. It lies east of Denver on the Arkansas River and south of Fort Collins on Highway 16. The Puebloan people were the first to settle in what is now Colorado. They built their village near present-day Pueblo Springs, which they named after their god Pachonkatz (meaning "the wellspring"). Their deity was thought to have come from within the springs themselves. The town grew slowly until it became a thriving community by 1885 when Congress passed an act providing for incorporation as a municipality. The Townspeople Association soon formed to manage government affairs and maintain public infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, post office, and fire stations. Pueblo experienced significant growth following World War II but experienced some setback during the 1960s due to protests over education reform initiatives championed by Mayor Dean Heller without local input or agreement from residents. In 1881 General John Custer's army fought its way past Mexican forces near Pueblo during his ill-fated expedition against the Apache Indians; as a result many Anglo miners fled into neighboring Arapaho County for safety before 1850s when Routt Ranch opened up alluvial mining operations around Denver/Aurora area which led to rapid population growth throughout Weld County especially around Steamboat Springs which had significant silvermining activity prior to 1870s although this area also experienced rapid population growth due to cattle ranching activities across Sprague Valley during late 19th century Leadville period

In AD 1098, the Spanish conquistador García López de Santa Anna founded San Miguel de Allende on the site of modern Albuquerque, New Mexico. The 16th century Puebloan community at Mesa Verde was abandoned by about 1500 AD due to drought and other causes.
