Northglenn, Colorado, is a town in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. Northglenn has a population of 382 as of the 2010 census. The first settlers to the area were groups of Native Americans who lived along the San Miguel River in what is now Highland County and Park County. They built lodges and hunted game near present-day Northglenn. The first permanent structures in the town were built by miners in 1868 when silver was discovered at Silverton Hill. The Minturn Mine on First Street NW was opened in 1869 and became one of the largest silver mines in America until it closed in 1907. In 1870, James Wickersham erected an opera house on Main Street NW which served as both a theater and community center for many years until it burned down. A post office was established at Northglenn on November 1, 1872, and remained operational until it was discontinued on December 15, 1903. In 1902, silver was found at Kit Carson Gulch east of Northglenn and so mining began there also which led to increased development around Kit Carson Gulch and other areas around Silverton Hill including Northglen
