The Navy has been a part of the Loveland community for over 120 years. The first naval vessel in Loveland was the USS Constitution, which arrived on May 25, 1857. The USS Constitution was a wooden ship and is now a museum in Loveland. The USS Boise delivered supplies to Spanish troops fighting in California during the Mexican-American War in 1898. Commodore James Dewey's flagship, the USS Maine, was sunk by HMS Erebus off Palmer Island on July 19, 1898. On January 2, 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt signed into law Public Law No. 953 providing for increased navy funding and authorizing construction of two new battleships - the USS Colorado and the USS Nebraska - atloans to the Federal Shipbuilding Corporation (FSC). On November 11, 1917, Congress passed Public Law No. 622 which authorized the creation of what would become known as Naval Base Cleveland – one of three naval bases within Cleveland’s limits. This act also authorizes maritime patrols along international waters off Cuba and Venezuelan coasts in order to prevent any hostile action by their country’s government against American interests there

Loveland, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2000 census. Its name comes from the nearby mountain and valley. The first people to live in what is now Loveland were the Pueblo of Acoma Indians. They arrived in 187 and built their village on the east side of the Animas River. In 1876, they abandoned their village and moved west to Anaconda Village near present-day Golden. In 1881, Loveland was founded as a post office by J.D. Sanborn with a population of six settlers. It became an incorporated city in 1907 when it annexed the adjacent unincorporated community of Acoma (now part of Thornton). After World War II, Loveland grew rapidly as manufacturing centers for unionsized workers emerged throughout the western United States; this growth caused some traffic congestion on Main Street which led to the establishment of a bypass road that runs through downtown Loveland today. Today,Loveland is known for its annual Homecoming parade which features floats made entirely out of recycled materials including tires and plastic bottles
On November 15, 1876, Loveland was founded by developer James H. Weir and his wife Mary Jane. The town was named in honor of General Ulysses S. Grant who had fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as the 41st President of the United States.
