Greenwood, Colorado is home to the world's first Tactical Coffee shop. The shop was opened in 1984 by John and Janice Dobbs. The store was a one-room affair with a few tables inside and an outdoor seating area. It served only coffee, but it soon became known for its unique and innovative products. The Dobbses were veterans of the U.S. Marine Corps, and their experience with military hardware gave them the idea to start a business selling tactical gear, weaponry, and more to active duty and veteran personnel. Their shop also became popular for itsConglomerate art collection which included works by local artists such as Rufus Wainwright and Jay Lynch. The Tactical Coffee Shop continued to be successful until 2009 when John passed away suddenly at the age of 68. Janice continued running the business until her death in 2016 after many years of service. Today, theTactical Coffee Shop still operates as aone-room operation with occasional special events held outside on location or at other local businesses like The Depot (a bar) or Golden Corral (a restaurant).

The early settlers were farmers who planted crops and hunted game for food. By 1881, Greenwood had a post office and two stores. The first train arrived in Greenwood on May 12, 1881, from Denver with passengers including several settlers from Lyons, Colorado. In 1907, Greenwood had a school which served grades K-12. On December 10th of that year (the day after Christmas), Arapaho Indians led by Chief Little Big Horn attacked white people near what is now Telluride Springs State Park while they rested their horses during winter break from their reservation job hunting for buffalo herds across state lines. In 1919 when there was an increase in crime in nearby Telluride Springs due to prohibition laws being enforced then instead of sending officers into town during daylight hours like they do now it was decided that law enforcement would be done through mounted patrols that would go around town during night time checking for violators
