Fruita is a small town in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains, about an hour's drive from Denver. It was founded in 1872 by Mormon pioneers, and became a Junction City after the railroad arrived. The first coffee shop opened in 1916. In 1948, Fruita voters approved a $5 per month tax for all businesses to support local education. This led to the establishment of the Fruita Coffee Company, which began selling coffee from its original location on Main Street. The company grew rapidly and moved to its current location in 1957. In 1984, they merged with another small business, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Co., forming the largest coffee company in Colorado with over 100 stores throughout Colorado and Wyoming.
Fruita is a small city in the U.S. state of Colorado. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Junction–Aurora, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fruita was founded in 1879 by John C. Eldredge and named after his fruit farm east of town. In 1915, Fruita became an incorporated village under the name Fruitaerville, but it reverted to its current name in 1968 when it merged with nearby Aurora to form the present-day metropolitan area.[1] Fruita has been home to both American and British military units during World War II and later served as a producer of uranium for United States nuclear weapons production. The detonation of three atomic bombs near Fruita on July 16, 1945 killed 38 people and injured more than 60 others including many local farmers who had been sheltered from radiation exposure at nearby Hanford National Laboratory.[2][3] Today, Fruita is known for its agriculture industry which includes crops such as wheat, corn, potatoes and beans; fruit trees such as apples, pears and grapes; dairy products such as milk, cheese and yogurt; gas stations/mini-marts; several restaurants including Red Lobster,[4] Sonic[5] Joes Pizza[6], Wingstop[7], Wegmans[8]and Piggly Wiggly,[9][10][11][12][13]and two golf courses (the newer being a 9-hole course opened in 1984).[14][15]

In 1812, French chef Pierre L’Especier created the first espresso machine and introduced it to Parisian society. The popularity of espresso spread throughout Europe, and by 1830 it had become an international drinkable beverage. Coffee began being produced for industrial purposes around 1800 AD. At this time, coffee beans were dried and ground into a fine powder which was then brewed as a tea or iced beverage. In 1870, Italian chemist Giovanni Battista Bose developed the first canned caffeine beans which helped make cafés more popular throughout Europe. By 1912, over 80% of all coffee production occurred in Brazil alone! However, these days only 3% of global coffee production takes place in Brazil – thanks largely to large investments by multinational corporations such as Starbucks! During World War II, coffeepots became popular as a method of drinking caffeinated beverages while on wartime duty. This led to increased demand for coffee acreage worldwide – much like our current world economy has led to increased demand for land for greenhouses! After World War II ended, new factories were built to produce high-quality caféespresso products worldwide once again! Today some 7 billion cups of Arabica coffees are processed each year!

In recent years, Fruita has become known for its wine industry, as well as its annual Festival of Lights. Fruita is located in Eagle County, about an hour's drive from Denver. The town was originally named Heber City after Brigham Young’s father, but it changed its name to Fruita in 1881 because the area around Heber City was too rough to farm. Today, Fruita is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Colorado. The local wine industry began developing in earnest in the late 1800s when fruit growers began trading with vineyards near Aspen and Vail. Over time, fruit wines became more popular than dry wine and have retained their popularity today. Some of the most famous fruit wines include Heber Valley Wines (made from grapes grown in Heber City), Anaconda Vineyards Blanc de Blanc (from white grape vines grown near Anaconda Lake), and Keystone Creek Winery Shiraz (from red grape vines). The first Festival of Lights took place on October 12th, 1907, marking the start of what would become an annual event that attracts over 100,000 people to downtown Fruita. This year’s festival features a variety of events including food booths and parade headed down Main Street towards US-87W which leads out into the scenic Flatirons Hills at nightfall for live music and fireworks displays!
