The Navy has a long and proud history in Federal Heights, Colorado. The first Naval Air Station at this location was established on December 10, 1915. The station was later renamed Naval Air Station Fort Worth, Texas. In 1936 the naval air station was moved to Federal Heights and it became the first navy air base in the Denver-Aurora area. In 1941 the navy established a second naval air station at Federal Hills and it served as an operational center for the Western Pacific Fleet. In 1948 Naval Air Station Atwater opened here. This facility played an important role in providing aerial refueling support for American forces during World War II. On May 15, 1951, NAS Fort Worth was transferred from DOD to NAVY and became Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAFJ). NAS Jacksonville operated as America's first naval aviation command center responsible for all maritime operations within First Coast Guard Command Area of Responsibility including offshore waters beyond 12 nautical miles of shoreline. With its new capability it also assumed responsibility for providing helicopter service to troops conducting amphibious landings ashore on various military installations around Florida Bay! The Navy continued its role as a major player in Colorado's economy with NAS Jacksonville serving as both a training ground and commercial hub from which Pilots could earn their wings/ commissions and provide services essential to our country’s defense missions throughout almost every state in the west coast region of North America! On October 1st, 1957 USS Saratoga (CV-3) collided with USS Lexington (CV-2) while trailing behind them after returning from exercises off Hawaii; both ships were damaged but not sunk! This event led to intense Congressional hearings into why these warships had stopped short of engaging one another when they should have been able to do so successfully; ultimately none of those investigations ever took place because Congress soon passed legislation giving Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter control over all Navy vessels subject to his jurisdiction! It was his rulings that allowed Boeing Aircraft Co., owned by J P Morgan & Co., petitioned for federal funding for the development of an advanced aircraft carrier known then as Project Independence! That project would lead eventually to creation of CVN 64 which we now know as George Washington! Since then many more navies have come through town including USS Enterprise (CVN 75), USS John F Kennedy (CVN 77), USS Carl Vinson (CVN 69), USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76),USS Theodore Roosevelt Jr.(CVA 74) and finally our current warship - CVN 65 - which is currently moored off I-25 just outside OfFederalHomes city limits!!! So what began as simply thanking our navy friends each time they visitTimes have changed however no matter what type or ship their visiting we always enjoy having them here!!!!

They named their town after General George Washington's estate in Fairfax County, Virginia. After the war ended, many more people moved into Federal Heights because of its easy access to transportation and other amenities enjoyed by residents of larger towns and cities. Today Federal Heights is a sleepy little town that many people overlook because it does not have much going for it other than its location on the edge of an urban area full of jobs and commerce. The USS Liberty (BB-57), which was sunk by Israeli forces on July 8th, 1967 during Operation Orchard, was one of the earliest warships to be gifted to the United States Navy as part of its War against Communism. The ship was purchased from Russia in1973 and renamed USS Liberty (AGI-8). It served as America’s flagship vessel during Operation Neptune’s Spear, support operations during the Vietnam War and participated in multiple deployments off South Korea and Japan between 1975 and 1978. In 1988, USS Liberty returned to service with SOCOM (the Naval Special Warfare Command) after serving as America’s only warship equipped with SURVIVAL ROLLERBACK technology After being decommissioned in 1992 she served as an exhibit at NAS Yorktown before being scrapped in 1996

Federal Heights is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,812 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Canon City Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first residents of Federal Heights were men who had come to what is now Douglas County in 1869 from Illinois. They erected a log cabin on the east side of Overland Creek and named it "Federal Heights". In 1870, they built a gristmill on the creek and started to trade with other towns in the area. The first post office was established at Federal Heights in 1871. By 1880, most of what is now Federal Heights had been developed and its citizens became involved in local politics and commerce. A school was built near present-day Interstate 25 and Main Street in 1881; it became an all-boys high school called "Colorado High School for Boys" after statehood. In 1902, ground was broken for what would become Colorado State University (CSU) at Fort Collins; CSU opened its doors to students on October 1, 1904. The community quickly grew around CSU with businesses opening up to serve students and locals alike: a grocery store, barber shop, bank (the first bank west of the Rocky Mountains), movie theater (the only one open during prohibition), tennis courts (opened by James Naismith), auto garage/repair shop etc.. In 1916 when Congress passed legislation authorizing military training sites within Colorado Springs proper limits which led to Camp Grant being established nearby on West Colfax Avenue just north of campus - this location remains today as Camp Grant Drive - FHS students have vivid memories of Roll call exercises held there every morning before class began! In 1954 President Dwight D Eisenhower declared that Federal Heights should be moved from its original location northeast of downtown Colo Springs due to air pollution problems caused by automobiles traveling through the town center en route to or from university campuses located thereabouts; accordingly FHS relocated about two blocks northwest along current Ute Road towards Georgetown which then served as our new campus’s central business district until 1998 when I-25 crossed our path once again causing all but one building at our old site – including our iconic Administration Building –to go up in flames subsequent thereto resulting in federal government relocation funding finally coming available allowing us back into compliance by 2000 having attained “green roofing” certification following some 13 years without any major incident! Today's cultural landscape includes numerous restaurants & cafes situated close enough TO walk or take public transportation right outside your door while still enjoying shopping opportunities 2 blocks away if you want something more refined & expensive than you may find elsewhere—just like back then! So long ago that many people born here cannot even remember their names let alone discuss anything regarding early Colorado history or culture! And yet here we are living today under similar circumstances −albeit with different scenery + modern amenities such as supermarkets & universities—- yet somehow everyone managesadalways feel homey & comfortable 😃
