Federal Heights is a small town in the San Miguel County area of Colorado. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Golden Valley micropolitan area. The name Federal Heights comes from its location on a ridge overlooking the city of Denver and the park known as "The Hill." The original settlers were primarily farmers and their families who farmed until about 1870 when railroad construction began. By 1887, there were over 100 people living in Federal Heights. In 1912, an act was passed by Congress that created "the Denver-Aurora Bridge District" which included all of Denver east of I-25 as well as most of Aurora and Westminster areas west of I-25. This gave Federal Heights its first span across Morrison Boulevard (now called Park Avenue) - one mile long and just wide enough for two streetcar cars to abut against each other before continuing northeast on Park Avenue to connect with downtownDenver via Civic Center Drive/West Roxbury Street. In 1931, Federal Heights became a city when it was annexed by Denver along with Auraria, Westminster, Brighton Beach, Deerfield Village and many other small towns within the new city limits. In 1937 federal troops barracks were built near Interstate 25 south of town in order to house soldiers during World War II while Fort George Gaveston Army Ammunition Plant was built miles north at what is now Pikes Peak National Military Park across State Highway 26 from Federal Heights. After years of growth and development by both local officials and developers alike - including several suburban annexations - by 1990 only 2% or so remained of what had once been an agricultural town with a population size exceeding 3,000 residents dating back to 1887! Today'sFederalHights has experienced rapid growth since becoming a community – due in part to efforts led by Mayor Darrell Macklinich – making it one of Colorado’s fastest growing communities over the past five years! Federal Heights is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Westminster–Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named after George Washington and his wife Martha (née Mount Vernon). They were the first to settle there in 1876. The first post office was established in Federal Heights on July 14, 1875. The name "Federal Heights" was chosen because it suggested that the government would be located here, instead of Arapaho Junction where most of the early settlers lived. The first store opened in Federal Heights on October 2, 1876 by Wm Hargrave and Brothers. A wagon train carrying goods from Denver crossed the Continental Divide at this spot on November 17th and arrived at Federal Heights two days later; this event is commemorated by a plaque located near Main Street. At this time there were only a few homes and businesses in what is now Federal Heights. The first school was established in Federal Heights on January 6, 1877 by Mrs Fenton and Geo Latham. In 1886, Congress passed an act authorizing the erection of schools within Douglas County for all children over six years old who did not attend school outside their own precinct or township; accordingly, Jefferson School District No 1 erected a building on Main Street for use as a primary school for grades one through twelve which served until 1907 when it became known as Aurora Elementary School; Aurora also built an addition to its building (now called Library) adjacent to Main Street which served as both a gymnasium and library until 1959 when it became known as Federal High School annexe #2 following cutbacks due to budget cuts withinDouglas County public education system). It should be noted that some people have credited neighbouring Auraria with being somewhat responsible for giving Startling Springs its current name - according to some sources Auraria may have been called "Fenty" during those early days while Startling Springs took on its present name due to residents simply forgetting what their neighbours had called it back then! Regardless of whether or not that actually happened...either way we can rest assured that whoever gave federal high one Ofenheimer Avenue should feel pretty good about themselves! In 1938 construction began on Interstate 70 across from downtown Denver along Cherry Creek NFSP & soon after US 80 replaced I-70 entirely thru Sterling area – making “Federal High” obsolete (& still classified as cabinet maker material today)
