The Colorado Navy has been deploying gifts to its military and civilian communities for over seventy years. The first naval gift from the Colorado Navy was a torpedo boat in 1912. It was followed by an electric launch in 1915. In 1916, the navy bought a tugboat, which was donated by Mayor of Evans, Wm. Haddock. In 1924, the navy acquired a sloop-of-war, USS Illinois (CA-11). The next year, the navy gifted USS Arizona (BB-39) to the city of Evans as a memorial of local support for America during World War II. In 1949, the Colorado Navy giftedUSS Maine (CVN 74) to Evans as part of the 50th anniversary of US Naval Forces Europe. USS California (BB 61) followed in 1951 and USS Oregon (AEH-5) in 1957. Evans is a small town in the U.S. state of Colorado, located on the east side of the Rocky Mountains. Evans was founded in 1876 by white man and Indian man George W. Evans and his wife Sarah Jane, as a post office called Fort Evansborough. The name comes from Welsh warlord Cadfan Einion's claim to the area that includes Evans today. The community grew rapidly during Reconstruction, with many people coming to Evans from Kansas and other parts of the Midwest to find work in the new America. By 1920, Evans had over 1,000 residents and was being considered as a "rust belt" city by some observers because its economic activity was focused on agriculture and mining rather than high-tech or professional services. However, growth continued apace during World War II as local businesses supported military efforts throughout Europe while population increased due to migration from outlying towns in rural Colorado County. After the war ended, Evans experienced significant residential growth thanks to migration from nearby Golden and Lafayette counties as people sought opportunities in what had become an expanding city center. However, rapid gentrification has since occurred in Evans – led especially by upscale housing developments such as The Villas – which has impacted both social dynamics within the community and its infrastructure; for example, access to public transportation has been limited while developers have removed most of the remaining trees around downtown streets Since 2000, there have also been several indicate attempts at revitalization including a rebranding campaign that aimed to attract more cultural attractions (e.g., art galleries) away from luxury homes near downtown cores; however these efforts have not always succeeded Today, Evans is home to about 10% of Colorado's population but it still remains one of the most diverse communities in all of Western Colorado with sizable populations from all over North America including Mexicans (almost half), African Americans (almost two thirds), Asians (three quarters), Europeans (eleven percent), Jehovah's Witnesses (eight percent) and Hindus (four percent). It is also one of few places where English is widely spoken as both primary language(s) among locals and second language(s) among those who migrated here after moving elsewhere in their countries or regions .

Evans, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado located east of the main population area of Grand Junction. The name Evans comes from the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1805-1806, which passed through this area on their route to the Oregon Trail. The first permanent settler in Evans was John Henshaw, who homesteaded land in 1876. In 1907, Evans became a census-designated place (CDP). The economy of Evans is heavily dependent on agriculture and ranching. Today, several thousand people live in the town and its surrounding rural areas. Most primary industries are based in the tractor manufacturing sector. Other major employers include the Grand Junction Airport and nearby schools and churches. John Henshaw House State Historic Site is a historic house located at 6200 Everson Rd.,Evans,Colorado 819984. This two story wood frame structure was built about 1886 for Lewis A. Henshaw by his son John Witherspoon Henshaw II.
