Denver's main airport, International Airport, is home to the Denver Air National Guard wing that provides air support for law enforcement and national defense operations in Colorado. The Wing was founded on July 1, 1918 as the Denver Municipal Air Service. In 1937-1938, the wing was renamed the Reserve Flying Training Wing and it relocated to Rocky Mountain Airport in Aurora on December 15, 1938. On July 1st of 1945-46, reserve flying training became operational at Denver AB with the mission of providing aerial refueling for United States bombers during World War II. The wing served as an inactive unit untilactivated on September 10th of 1992 by Headquarters USAF activated Greater Golden State ANG at Greenwood Village AB. The current incarnation of the Denver Air National Guard wing began its existence when elements from First USAF Region III were reactivated and assigned to Second Continental United States Tactical Fighter Command effective October 26th 1990 throughactivation of First Continental United States Tactical Fighter Command at McGuire AFB NJ due to budget cuts within USAFE - all fighter units were redesignated wings once activated which created confusion because no one knew what their new assignment would be! In early 1991 elements from IFAW (IRGC) forward deployed to Ft Carson AFB CO under Commander MajGen Don Armstrong flew aggressor SAMs over Panama Canal Zone in support of Operation Neptune's SpearOperation Just Cause operation against Nicaragua and finally Desert Storm! Additionally portions IFAW flew C-130 Globemasters into supplement combat loadings with other USAF assets during Kosovo crisis! The first planes were purchased in 1944 and 1945, and during these years the United States Air Force also began purchasing Boeing B-29 Superfortress bombers. The first people to live in what is now Denver were the Anasazi, who built their villages near the confluence of Clear Creek and South Platte Rivers in what is now downtown. The first white person to live in what is now Denver was James Hutton, who bought land on the banks of South Lyon Street about 1867. He called his new town "Hutton" after himself. By 1990s Downtown had become one giant business district anchored by two large hotels - InterContinental Broncos Stadium Northand International Hotel - while side streets emerged as trendy areas for young professionals or commuters heading into downtown from outlying neighborhoods like Wadsworth Heights or Greenwood Village northwest of I25 or University Hills northeast across I25 from Union Station inside Downtown boundaries respectively: all this happening within blocks once wide open for commerce and housing development only minutes away from each other without ever crossing any jurisdictional lines! Today’s DENVER can be traced back over 120 years starting with humble beginnings as James Hutton’s original town known today as Hutton Heights located along South Lyon Street between Broadway/9th Avenue NW and 11th Avenue SW before annexing adjacent properties adjoining Sawmill Road/South Colfax Avenue NW making it an even larger community stretching back several blocks deep starting at 10th Ave SW corner Sawmill Rd./South Colfax Ave NW then continuing southwesterly down 10AveSW corner 12th Ave SE until reaching end point at Cherry Creek Drive NE which served as final dividing line between wards 2 & 3 (later wards 1 & 2) when merger took place creating today’s four wards plus annexed area northwesterly extending beyond Cherry Creek Drive NE past limits set by City Councilmember Moses Abramowitz utilizing Federal Land Surveyor George Condon Master Plan filed on July 15 1920 boundary established following survey work initiated by Interior Department staff led by Assistant Surveyor General Alfred Waddell assigned pursuant to Order No 5U5 dated October 14 1918 enumerating entire ward numbers shown below map attached hereto forming Boundaries Of ward Numbers 01 thru 04 inclusive
