The Marine Corps has been deployed in many different places around the world since World War II. One of the most unique deployments was to Commerce City, Colorado in 1992. This deployment saw the first ever Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) stationed in this city. The MEU was a unit made up of sailors and Marines from all over the United States. They were used for missions such as peacekeeping and training exercises. Since then, other MEUs have been sent to various parts of the world. Some have stayed for only a few months, while others have lasted for years. But no deployment has caused more stir than that to Commerce City in 1992. That year, Operation Desert Storm happened and many service members from all over America were called to military duty. Many people in town decided they had never seen so many Marines before and they got behind the Marines as they went about their daily lives. Many people still remember what happened during that deployment when marines destroyed Saddam Hussein’s tyranny during one of the most important wars in history! The town also helped promote marine culture by hosting several concerts, exhibits, and events related to marine life and warfare during that time period. As part of this history, some interesting things have happened such as a museum being built specifically for marines on Main Street which is now open to the public every day!

Commerce City is a small town in Routt County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Forks–Havre de Grace Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Commerce City were fur traders who prospected for fur on the Powder River and Yellowstone Rivers. In 1806, James Ford founded the first store in what is now Commerce City. On July 4, 1876, Fort Hays Foundry was established in what is now downtown Commerce City by Major General George Crook to produce brass cannons for use against Apache Indians in the Gold Rush era. The foundry produced over 1 million rounds of brass cannon from 1876-1879. In 1886, Denver and Rio Grande Railroad built a branch line from Cheyenne to Commerce City and began freight service there on October 1st. The city grew rapidly with new businesses opening up such as grocery stores and banks. By 1912, it had become known as "The Gateway To The Rockies". By 1915 it had reached its peak population with over 20 businesses and over 100 residents. However during World War I (1914-1918), commerce declined as war production disrupted trade; however by 1921 it had recovered to its prewar levels with only 9 businesses closed due to wartime rationing of goods . With increased industryanquisitionism during World War II (1939-1945), commerce declined again until 1946 when it reached its prewar level again with only 5 businesses closed due to wartime restrictions on materials that could be imported into the country during that time period On December 15th 1956 Charles Manson committed one of the most heinous crimes ever committed against humanity when he murdered 6 people at Spahn Ranch north of town in what is now called Tate/Lauren SCUBA Diversion Park

The town was founded by George Hearn and others in 1865 when they were looking for land to build a railroad depot. The first store opened in 1867 and the first post office was established in 1870. It is bordered to the north by Westminster and to the east by Longmont. The downtown area includes three blocks of Main Street between Seventh and Eighth Streets, plus two blocks of Fourth Street between Sixth and Seventh Streets. Commerce City has a humid continental climate with hot summers and cold winters; average monthly temperatures range from . According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Commerce City has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate.[2] As of July 2009, there are no buildings that have been registered with the National Heritage Preservation Office because they are considered rare or endangered historic structures; however some evidence suggests that Commerce City may have once had more buildings than currently exist due to demolition/destruction during early 21st century economic recession caused by oil depletion fields nearby
