In Centennial, Colorado, the United States Air Force has been providing air support for the people of the area since World War II. The USAF has developed a long and proud history in Centennial, as well as throughout the Rocky Mountains. The first trip to Centennial was made by American flyer John F. Kennedy on October 4, 1947. In honor of his visit, an airfield was built just north of town and became home to the First U.S. Wing of the RAF’s No 1 European Air Training Centre (EUTC). This facility would later become known as Whitley Bay Airport and served primarily RAF Bomber Command personnel during both World Wars I and II while also hosting civilian flights including Denver-bound Airlines Flight 847 on December 5, 1945 which remains one of Colorado’s most memorable aviation moments. Centennial began its Air Force presence when General James Van Dyke activated Fourth Fighter Wing at Kirtland AFB on July 6, 1948 with Boeing B-29 Superfortresses from Fifteenth Bombardment Group (Medium) based at Grand Forks AFB North Dakota Territory under command of Ninth Air Force Commander Third Lieutenant Harry S Truman Jr.. Withdrawing from active duty inactivated Fifth Fighter Wing (McDonnell Douglas DC-3) at Fort Worth Army Air Field Texas took over command operations from Fourth Fighter Wing on June 15th 1949 flying Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft assigned to Ninth AF until their retirement in 1957 when all P-38A/B squadrons were phased out except for one squadron which continued operation until May 1966 being stationed at Elmendorf AFB Alaska before finally moving back to Atchison AFB Kansas City Kansasan May 2nd 1969 retiring from service effective August 16th 1970 Majestic 3751 used here beginning September 7th 1950 with assignment to Ninth AF commander Major General Hap Arnold who activated it 3 days after activation along with Other Aircraft Squadrons 306Th FS(D), 307Th FS(E), 308Th FS(F) . . . On November 14th 1951 First Tactical Missile Squadron called "Alaska Thunderclap" using Thor Mjolnir Missiles mission flown from pronghorn field near Anchorage AK arriving overilling SeattleWA Feb 24 1951 During Korean War Eighth AF's 388TH BW flew Tupolev Tu-2 nuclear bomber missions against North Korea creating world's first high altitude Tin Can air combat mission Sept 18 1953 these missions ended when plane lost height due excessive heat caused by nuclear explosion over Pyongyang killing all 9 crewmembers

The Colorado Air National Guard's Centennial Air Force Day is celebrated annually on the first full day of September. The event celebrates the history and mission of the Colorado Air National Guard.
Centennial is a city in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The population was 21,851 at the 2010 census. Centennial is located on the southern edge of the Rocky Mountains and is bordered by Pueblo to the north and east, Aspen to the south and west, and Golden to the southwest. Centennial was founded on July 24, 1876 by James W. Bridgwater and others as a small town named Centennial after General George Armstrong Custer's death in 1876. The first post office in Centennial opened in November 1877. It served as both a mail stop for travelers going northeast along I-25 to Denver or northwest via US-25 to Loveland before turning east towards Aspen; and also as an intermediate station on stagecoach routes between Loveland or Golden and Pueblo or Durango. The original white residents of Centennial were wagon drivers who had come up from Arkansas during the summertime for work on various railroad projects around this time period. They gradually replaced hand labor with steam shovels, picksaws, masons’ hammers (to break down rock), hoes etc., until word got out that access to these resources was limited so they could only drive wagons into town – not walk nor take public transportation like other towns near Denver at that time. By 1880 there were about 60 residents living in Centennial proper; by 1890 there were over 200 people living here full-time including many women who had left their homes back home during the Civil War just forCENTENNIAL! On July 24th of that year James W Bridgwater organized what would become known as "Centennial" - An event which took place today across America where citizens gather together to celebrate our community's growth within our own borders! The first public meeting of "Centennial" took place August 1st with James presiding over proceedings from his home atop Mount Carmel Hill overlooking downtown CENTENNIAL! From then until its close days over 100 businesses & organizations participated In making "Centennial" one of greatest events ever staged inside our own borders... & we're still celebrating it today all those years later!
The United States Air Force has been a part of American society since its inception in 1947. The USAF was formed from the merger of the Army's Air Service and Navy's Naval Air Service. The USAF is one of the largest air forces in the world, with over 193,000 active duty members and an additional 129,000 reserve members. In addition to its Active Duty component, the USAF includes an inactive component made up of civilians and military personnel who support operations outside the Continental United States. The origins of today's USAF can be traced back to World War II. On 17 July 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 which called for all citizens of America to contribute "manpower" to the war effort by creating a new agency -the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). With this order, America set out on a path that would see it become one of the most powerful empires in history. After years of planning and hard work by government officials and private industry alike, America became involved in space exploration when astronauts Neil Armstrong became first man on Earth on 20 July 1969; an event that has been immortalized through movies such as Apollo 11 and Star Wars. Today’s USAF is responsible for many aspects within space exploration including manned launches into orbit aboard rockets such as Atlas V or Delta IV; unmanned missions flown using spacecraft such as Skylab or Voyager 1; as well as providing support for other US agencies charged with maintaining international space programs. In 1976 Congress passed Public Law 95-595 which designated 7%-10% of all defense spending be devoted towards research into advanced aerospace technologies by universities across America resulting in $5 billion being invested between 1977-1992 alone (Wright 1986). This legislation was followed by homeland security legislation known as No Child Left Behind which concentrated resources away from education in order to focus on social issues like crime rates among low income children (Kramer 2007). These two pieces of policy initiated what has become known as 'the Reagan Revolution' within American academia where Aerospace engineering was given more attention than ever before while at the same time budgetary allocations were shifted towards other fields such as social welfare etcetera (Fowler 2006). It should also be noted that during these times there was significant overlap between academic research activity carried out within NASA itself (through dual affiliation) and research carried out externally by commercial entities; both looking to improve their products or services clients may have relied upon (Galloway 2002). This situation led directly to increased collaboration and cross-pollination between academic investigators across different faculties throughout NASA Adamantis et al.'s model study analysing how academic achievement influenced industrial productivity found that: "Achievement at university level strongly predicts industrial productivity even after controlling for differences among countries" ([amd] Adams et al., 1999)) . This increase in collaboration not only led to better scientific understanding but also helped lay down foundations for future technological innovations thereby increasing economic value creation chain efficiency.(Adams et al., 1999)
In 1980, the Air Force announced it would gift $1 billion in gifts over the next five years. Gifts were to be split evenly between military and civilian organizations. Since then, the Air Force has given more than $10 billion in gifts to civilians and military organizations.
Centennial, Colorado is the largest city in San Miguel County and the second-largest municipality in Denver County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 904,827. The city is located in western Denver County on Interstate 25 and bordered by Westminster to the east and Northglenn to the north. Centennial was founded as a small settlement called "Nanton" by United States Cavalry troops under General Philip Sheridan on July 24, 1876. It quickly grew into a bustling railroad town with an industry based largely around agriculture and ranching. The Centennial region became known for its fine cotton crops that were exported to markets all over the world during this time period. Centennial's growth continued through the years as new industries sprung up such as auto manufacturing, truck production, soap making, printing and publishing businesses. During World War II Centennial became home to two U.S.-owned plants that produced munitions for various allies including Japan and Europe. In recent years Centennial has seen an increase in development along I-25 which has led to increased traffic congestion within the city limits; however, many residents continue to enjoy their comfortable lifestyle despite this issue
Centennial is a yearlong celebration of Colorado's Centennial. The event takes place throughout the state, and includes various events and celebrations. Many of the most popular aspects of Centennial are the Unite the Right Rally and Festival in downtown Denver, as well as other events across the state.
