Castle Rock is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first coffee shop in Castle Rock opened in 1965. In 1984, Castle Rock became the home to a small batch roasting company known as Blue Bottle Coffee. The company produces about 1,000 pounds of coffee each week and has a store near downtown that sells its beans and related products. In 2007, Blue Bottle Coffee moved its main production facility from Castle Rock to Aurora, Colorado. This made it easier for consumers to purchase their coffee online or through independent stores around the area. In 2013, Blue Bottle Coffee announced it would close its doors permanently after more than 25 years in business. This left an impact on the local community as many people found new opportunities to enjoy their favorite beverage while still residing within minutes of downtown CastleRock.
Brewing coffee is a process that takes time and patience. The first step in coffee brewing is to preheat the water to 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Next, add the beans to the water and stir until they are evenly mixed. After adding the required amount of grounds, place the pot on a stovetop burner and let it heat up for 10 minutes. Once heated, pour hot water into the pot and let it steep for 3-5 minutes. When finished, strain the coffee using a plunger or colander before serving cold.
Small batch coffee history in Castle Rock, Colorado starts with the first small-batch coffee shop in town in the late 1800s. The first shop was located on Second Street and served mostly refreshments. By the early 1900s, a second small-batch coffee shop had opened on Third Street. In the 1920s, a third small-batch coffee shop opened on Fourth Street. By the 1940s, Castle Rock had four small-batch coffee shops. However, by the 1990s only one small-batch coffee shop remained in town. The last small-batch coffee store closed in 1992 and all of its beans were destroyed according to owner Rick Nappi.
Castle Rock, Colorado is a small town located in the San Miguel County of Colorado. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Castle Rock were Stagecoach Indians who used to camp there during the summertime. They would take their goods downriver and sell them back upriver. The first settler in Castle Rock was Abe Prentice who started a bakery on Main Street in 1876. He and his wife, Martha, ran it for many years until they sold it to Harry Sievers in 1922. Sievers built the first school which he taught at from 1892 until 1911 when he retired as principal. In 1909, John Ault opened the Ault Drug Store on Broadway which became one of Castle Rock's most popular businesses until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1912, Jens Næss began selling ice cream from his truck parked outside of his candy store on Red River Avenue called "Næss's." It continued to be an important stop for customers well into the 21st century. In 1916, Clyde Fenton opened a hardware store on Elmendorf Boulevard which also became a popular business until it closed its doors in 1975. Also starting around 1916 were two other stores - Harry Weiser's grocery store (later known as Weiser's Supermarket) and Jack Tunnell's general store - both of which remain active today. From these three businesses came what is now known as downtown CastleRock: Næss's candy shop served as its cornerstone; Fenton Hardware Store anchored Broadway between Cherry and Pearl Streets; while Tunnell General Store took over across Pearl from Næss' Candy Shop before closing its doors permanently c1985. The three stores combined manufactured more than 100 products including beer, cigarettes and automobiles. In addition to these local businesses that operated primarily within downtown CastleRock, there were also several restaurants and cafes that dotted various parts of town during those early days: The Opera House had been established by Mrs Isabella Hutton after she moved into her new home next door from her previous job running a school near First Baptist Church; Anson’s Hotel occupied what is now East Colfax Avenue between Mormon Temple Square and 14th Street South; Dutch Bros., restaurant overlooking Park Avenue across from Anson’s Hotel served refreshments through out much of 1916 (and continuing into later decades),
