The first coffee shop in Broomfield, Colorado opened in 1907. The first coffee beans were brought overland from Mexico. The name of the first coffee shop was “The Cafe” and it was located on Delaware Street. In 1916, a second store opened on Monument Avenue and the name was changed to “The Coffee House”. In 1951, a third store opened on Sibley Boulevard and the name was changed to “Broomfield Coffee & Tea Company”. The company closed its doors in 1975 but reopened in 1984 as Broomfield Coffee & Tea Company-Athletic Department Store. Today, the company operates as an online store with stores located throughout Colorado and Wyoming. In 1913, broomsfield pioneer John Haggerty founded the Haggerty Typewriter Corporation which became one of the most successful typewriter manufacturers in America during the 1920s and 1930s. Haggerty also co-founded American Tobacco Inc., one of Colorado's largest tobacco companies for more than 50 years until its bankruptcy in 1984. From 1925 until his death in 1973, John Haggerty was chairman of American Tobacco Co.'s board of directors. In 1932, he founded Broomfeld Brewing Company which remains one of Colorado's oldest breweries today with production continuing until present day at its brewing plant on Main Street in Broomfield.

They named their company "Colorado Pacific Railroad Company" and started construction on the line that became known as The Grand Trunk Railway (CPR). In 1886, CPR merged with other companies to form The Northern Pacific Railway (NRA). In 1916, Mayor Willis Hargrave founded Broomfield Day School which remains open today as one of the most important educational institutions in Broomfield. In 1964, Broomfield banned smoking indoors because it caused respiratory problems for children and adults alike
