Brighton, Colorado is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Collins-Aurora, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Brighton were white settlers who arrived around 1875. They traded goods with the local Native American tribe and hunted game in the area. In 1886, a post office was founded in Brighton and it stayed open until 1911. In 1912, a railroad was built through Brighton and it served as a commercial center for many years. The community experienced several waves of growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s. During the 1920s and 1930s, Brighton experienced some of its most notable economic growth due to its location on the railroads which made it easy to get products to market. By 1940, Brighton had reached its peak population with over 2,000 residents living there. During World War II, much of what is now Brighton was used as an airfield for Nazi Germany Operation Sea Lion because RAF Fighter Command flew combat missions from RAF Bentwaters Airport nearby during that time period. After 1945, however, most of the community slowly declined as various businesses closed their doors throughout the years due to competition from newer towns within Weld County or elsewhere in western Colorado Springs metropolitan area On October 14th 2017 by order of Mayor Matherly (D), all public buildings including fire stations were placed on lock down due to concerns over potential threats posed by individuals or groups who may have derogatory words or images related to any race or ethnicity written or painted on them . This order also applies equally to all vehicles parked outside these buildings... Action will be taken if such items are not removed within 24 hours

H. Sibley, arrived in 1881 with his family and began to build a trading post near what is now Brighton Elementary School. This early settlement was known as “Sibley” because it was named for him. The first post office in Brighton opened in 1883 and served the community until 1907 when it became closed due to cost overruns on its construction. During the early years of this community, many people worked at nearby mines and mills which provided some of the town’s earliest residents with their livelihoods. The milling industry declined after World War I but continues to exist today as a small business operation manufacturing products such as flour, cornmeal, cheese and bacon products
Brighton, Colorado was a small town in the Weld County area of Colorado from its incorporation in 1876 until it abandoned its status as a community in 1949. The population of Brighton was 785 in 1920 and 514 in 1950. It declined to just 122 residents by 1980, but increased to 270 by 1990. By 2000, the population had decreased again to just 54 residents.
