The Temecula Coffee Company, founded in 1915 by two American businessmen, Abe and Harry Weingarten, was one of the first coffee companies to be established in Temecula. The company began business with a single truckload of beans from Sumatra. In 1916, Abe Weingarten donated their first roastery in the town of Temecula to serve local coffee drinkers. By 1919, the company had purchased a larger roasting and packaging facility located on Township Road 12 near downtown Temecula. The new facility allowed for increased production and distribution of their coffee products throughout California and Nevada. During World War II, the company produced coffee for military personnel stationed at Camp Pendleton in southern California. After the war ended, they continued to produce coffee for military personnel until 1957 when they switched to ground beans only. In 1954, they introduced their first espresso machine which became popular among local coffee aficionados. They also began selling pre-packaged coffees such as blends and decafs. From 1961 through 1976, Abe Weingarten served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Temecula Coffee Company before his death in 1978. Harry Weingarten followed suit in 1980 and retired from his position after more than 50 years of service to the company. In 1915, Antonio Gomez's son Fernando decided to move his family toTemecula and open his own business called La Caja de Fuego (The Cage). La Caja de Fuego was one of the first Mexican-owned businesses in Temecula. La Caja de Fuego soon became well-known for its excellent artisan coffee products, including espresso drinks and hot chocolate. In 1935, Fernando Gomez passed away; his son José took over management of La Caja de Fuego and continued to produce top-notch coffee products until he retired in 1984. today, José Gomez's grandson Francisco takes over management of La Caja de Fuego.

Temecula is a city in the Unincorporated County of Temecula, California, United States. The population was 17,988 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Temecula was Manuel Nieto in 1849. A post office was established in 1853 and named for Temecula Creek, which ran through the town. The first store opened in 1857 and an hotel followed two years later. In 1865, temescal vineyards were founded and became a major wine production center until Prohibition ended in 1933. In 1957, the University of California at Riverside (UCR) started its first campus in Temecula and annexed neighboring communities of Murrieta and Moreno Valley to form a new campus area with more than 26,000 students. UCR's current campus covers 339 acres (149 hectares). Prior to annexation by UCR, both Moreno Valley and Murrieta had small villages with homes scattered among trees near their respective missions chapels--a common practice among citrus growers during that era. In 1968, Temecula voters passed Measure J which authorized construction of a water supply system from Cowell Reservoir northwest of town on irrigation canals leased from Rancho Cucamonga Municipal Water District to support future growth without raising taxes on resident taxpayersubject to Proposition 10 ballot measure that would have repealed Measure J but failed by 3 million votes statewide as recorded by county Registrar-Recorder automated voting machines
