The Marine Corps deployed a gift history in Santa Ana, California on Dec. 3, 1942. The gift was the USS Constitution Museum ship, which served as the flagship of the Marines during World War II. The USS Constitution Museum was donated by Colonel John B. Pershing to the Marine Corps and is now located in San Diego, California. The USS Constitution Museum ship arrived at Naval Station Long Beach on Nov. 16, 1942 and underwent pre-deployment training at the Battleship Divisional Training Center in Newport News, Virginia from Nov. 25-Dec 1st 1944. On Dec 2nd 1944 the ship sailed for Japan with Rear Admiral Harry Wohlman as her commanding officer and First Lieutenant Julius Hirschhorn as captain of deck watch aboard SS United States (Titanic), Flagship of Pacific Fleet for Operation Downfall (the Japanese surrender). After disembarking her passengers at Yokohama Pier on Nov 26th 1946 USS Constitution Museum arrived in San Francisco Bay where she embarked upon her first voyage to reopen Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary following its closing in 1939 due to an outbreak of tuberculosis among federal prisoners being held there. After spending one week moored outside City Hall Park In downtown San Francisco she departed for Oakland County on December 4th 1946 bound for Albany, Michigan via Flintport Harbor then upriver to Sault Ste Marie before arriving at Manitou Island on December 13th 1946 finally reaching her destination three days later after passage through foggy waters off shore! This maiden voyage was also notable because it was only when they reached Manitou Island that members of the public were finally allowed onto board! USS Constitution Museum spent Christmas 1951 living permanently moored at Golden Gate Park Marina until January 15th 1957 when she sailed back into dry dock again for final preparation for recommissioning into service with a new name - HMCS Algonquin (CVA-19). She departed Mare Island Navy Yard Jan 21st 1957 under command of Commander David L Nillingen and arrived At Suva International Harbour Fiji Jan 29th 1957 loaded with general cargo including coconut oil USMC base caught fire She completed decommissioning ceremoniesat Suva International Harbour Feb 5th 1957 before sailing back into Naval Base Fiji where she remained until May 6th 1958 when she returned home via New York City

Santa Ana is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metropolitan area and is the most populous city within that region. It lies on both sides of i-10 and shares borders with San Bernardino to the east and Riverside to the west. In 1853, following gold discoveries at Sutter's Mill in Northern California and at Redlands Leadville some 20 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, merchants in Laguna Niguel began shipping goods by sea through Point Mugu Harbor on Long Beach Peninsula to buyers in Southern California including sections of Ventura County now known as Porter Ranch (present day La Crescenta), Simi Valley (Simi Hills), Palmdale (Porter Ranch), Yorba Linda (Yorba Linda Heights) and Chatsworth (Chatsworth). This activity attracted attention from American expatriates who had become interested in this new development because ships could reach any port anywhere along America's West Coast without having to be unloaded or transported overland across country
