In 1929, Angelo's Cafe merged with another business, The Java House, to form what would be known as The Java House & Coffee Company. Today, many people still refer to The Java House & Coffee Company as "the birthplace of espresso." During the 1960s and 1970s there was a major shift happening within American coffee industry; Slowly but surely craft roasts were becoming more popular than pre-packaged roast types. One such company that played a pivotal role in this shift was Blue Bottle Coffee Co., which originated out of Palo Alto, California and opened their first roast shop back in 1976.
