The Coast Guard has been in operation in the town of Paramount, California since 1921. The Coast Guard Station was established on December 12th, 1921 and is currently located at the corner of Third Street and Ivar Avenue. The station is responsible for the prevention of piracy, smuggling, and other Illegal activities along California's coastline. In 2010, the station received a gift from philanthropist Nelson Peltz. In 1960s, when it was known as Station "A" in Paramount, the Coast Guard gave out small radios as gifts to various people who helped keep our coast safe. Gifts were also given such as fishing net baskets or T-shaped lifejackets to protect fishermen from high waves or storms. The name "Paramount" comes from two different words:PARAMOUNT ENTERTAINMENT and HAVEN'T I SAID SO? This film company was founded on October 15th 1922 by 2 brothers Harry & Sam Goldwyn who named their new film company "Paramount Entertainments". On May 25th 1926 their company merged with United Artists Productions which became 20th Century Fox Film Corp... finally gaining its own independent studio status in 1939 followed by another merge with MGM which gives us our current day stable Studio at Walkers Creek right next door to LAS VEGAS! So what does it all mean???? When you think about all these years passed since those 2 guys started out making movies you come back full circle to learn that Hollywood has always been more than just an entertainment business!!! And we wouldn't be here today if it weren't for them!!!!!
