Moraga is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 3,049 people. Moraga was founded by Spaniards in 1814 as part of Rancho Magna de la Guerra. The first post office was established in 1827. In 1862, Moraga became a town when it was annexed by Fresno. It achieved city status in 1968 and has since grown rapidly with the addition of new neighborhoods such as La Honda and Pico Rivera. The history of Moraga can be traced back to 1814 when Spanish colonists arrived on therancho Magna de la Guerra in present-day Fresno County. They named this location Santa Rita del Norte because they found a mountain called "Rita" (a female saint) on their journey northward from San Francisco Bay. The name "Morgalfa" (meaning "mountain field") was also given to the area around present-day Moraga after Mission San José de Morgantown, located about 10 miles south of where Moraga now stands, acquired land near what is now downtown Fresno in 1793 for its Mexican mission system. The original adobe buildings that still stand in downtown Morgantown were built by missionaries working for Franciscan friars at that time. In 1827, local farmers began receiving water rights from the Umpqua River which led to the construction of two large reservoirs at present-day La Honda and Pico Rivera along with other infrastructure improvements over time including an improved road connection between La Honda and Fresno, as well as an agricultural extension service that helped increase production throughout much of southern Kern County during the 19th century. One hundred years later, progress continues with investments like updated zoning laws which have allowed for more housing development while preserving open space; increased access to education through public schools; and continued economic growth via businesses like Adobe Creative Services and Apple Incorporated’s campus within walking distance of downtown Morgantown today!
