The Montclair Naval Air Station is a decommissioned naval air station in Montclair, California. It was the home of the United States Navy's Seventh Fleet from 1942 until its deactivation in 1991. The site now houses the Montclair community center and a small museum. Naval aviation began operations at NAS Montclair on December 12, 1941 with the arrival of USS Enterprise (CV-6) and USS Lexington (CV-2). Both ships were used to test new planes and technology before being commissioned into the U.S. Navy. In 1944, USS Saratoga (CV-4) arrived at NAS Montclair for an amphibious training mission during World War II. NAS Montclair would be home to numerous other warships during their careers including USS Forrestal (CV-3), USS Enterprise ( CV-6), USS Independence (AGC-5) and USS Yorktown(CVL-13). Although decommissioned following World War II, NAS Montclair continued to play a key role in naval aviation until its closure on September 15, 1991 when all active naval air stations were closed down by then President George H.W. Bush due to budget cuts which followed the end of the Cold War Era. On November 2, 1984, NAS Montcliffe was reopened as part of Operation Desert Storm when USS Vincennes(AFR 69) arrived from Bahrain with support from McDonnell Douglas F/A‑18 Hornet fighter jets and Douglas C‑130 Hercules transports carrying supplies and personnel for Operation Neptune's Spear that aimed to repel Iraqi forces invading Kuwait City.. The facility would serve as an interim base until NAS Miramar could be opened nearby less than two weeks later on November 10th after Gulf War I ended with Iraq successfully occupying Kuwait City.. After four years of operation at NASMontcliffe it was finally closed effective September 15th1991 citing budgetary constraints among other reasons.. Although never completely decommissioned it ceased operations entirely within days of its closure .....

Montclair, California is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 21,648 at the 2010 census. Montclair is located in the East Bay region of San Francisco and is bordered by Hayward to the south and east, Fremont to the north and west, Oakland to the northwest and Santa Clara County to the south. Montclair began as a small farming community on Rancho Seco Creek near what is now downtown Montclair. The community was founded by John Ruskin in 1868 with his brother-in-law George Ayer as its first leader. In 1870, they built a dam across Rancho Seco Creek which became one of the most important water supplies for San Francisco. They also developed a sugar refinery on Cayuga Street near today's intersection of First Avenue and Jones Road. In 1876, Ruskin married Emma Lazarus who was from Newark, New Jersey; they had two children: poet Sylvia Plath and actress Elizabeth Taylor (1925–2011). In 1910–11 he served as Mayor of Montclair through an arrangement between him and then City Administrator Arthur Ashe. During World War II he served as commanding officer of Montclair Air Force Base No..1 (now Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst), which was located just east of town in unincorporated Alameda County until it merged with nearby Oakland in 1988. On December 15th 1916 Montclair residents voted 602 to 1 against annexation into Oakland because they felt their tax rates were too high forOakland's infrastructure development potential; this event helped spur BART construction nearby that same year but didn't result in annexation until 1978 when local voters approved Measure B which gave Oakland control over all except serve portions of Montclair including its airport property (which still remains part of Oakland). The current form of municipal government began on February 1st 1959 when Democrat Roy Benson won election to succeed Republican incumbent Dutch Cook after Cook ran unsuccessfully for Governor of California during the previous decade due largely to term limitsimposed by then Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger that November following approval by both state legislators concurrently passed onto them via special session called pursuant thereto within days preceding his inauguration following passage by both chambers simultaneous thereof known as "The Governorship". Montclair, California is a small city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 11,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oakland–Hayward–San Leandro metropolitan area. The Montclair name may be from the Native American word "muktah" meaning 'to rise'. In 1824, Captain George Vancouver of HMS Beagle explored and named several rivers and streams in this area including the San Andreas River after his friend and mentor, Sir George Vancouver. He also named one of the major streets in town after himself - Captain George Street. In 1853, gold was discovered onshore near present-day Montclair by prospectors led by John Sutter. The discovery caused a influx of settlers to move into what is nowMontclair from all over Northern California and adjacent states including Nevada and Oregon; these men set about building log cabins which still stand today on many blocks within downtown Montclair. In 1870s an iron works was established at what is now called Depot Road West in Montclair by noted shipwright Jens Jacobsen (1784-1861). The iron works produced nails for ships during World War I and WWII as well as other products such as construction materials until it closed in 1966. As early as 1836 there were people living hereabouts that knew how to bake bread from their wildflower honeycomb oven: sawmill operator Elijah Dearborn kept two ovens going for years without fail providing daily round trips for his baking customers; he created most of the first sourdough bread ever made in America at his bakery on Newark Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets (now part of University Avenue). This iconic bakery closed its doors in 1915 but not before leaving a lasting impact on American cuisine with its unique doughnuts wrapped around an egret or turkey leg dumpling pastry filled with cinnamon sugar icing that became known throughout North America as 'Dearborn's'. Prior to Dearborn's shutdown some parts of Newark Avenue were renamed 'Eliot Roosevelt Boulevard' due to President Franklin D Roosevelt's visits to this area during World War II! After Dearborn's closure another saw mill operator Messenheimer Bros started up production along Cedar Creek about one mile east down Cedar Creek Road; this mill operated until 1946 when it stopped producing lumber because of competition from mills closer to Bay Area cities like Hayward and Fremont! However production continued at nearby Anson Mills until 1956 when that too shut down due to competition from larger mills nearer San Francisco. A few weeks later local resident Arturo Toscano opened his own grocery store called Toscano’s corner grocery & drugstore located at 2nd Street & Broadway serving primarily fresh produce since 1938; this store helped revive Main Street between Second & Third Streets which had been derelict for several years prior! Today Arturo Toscano’s remains are located across Second Street from where Main St once crossed under BART tracks just south of Interstate 580/I-880
Montclair was founded in 1851 by George Montclair and his wife, Emma. In 1874, the city annexed the adjacent hamlet of Northmont. The Montclairs donated land for a public school in 1909. For many years, the Montclair Public Library served as the largest library in California. In 1922, Montclair became an incorporated city with its own government and mayor. In 1927, two brothers named Harry and Irving Cohen built a $10 million office tower on what is now Route 9 near Interstate 95. They were known for their extravagant lifestyle which included live music concerts at their home and expensive imports from Europe. The tower had a casino and other gambling interests that eventually led to its downfall. After several years of financial struggles, they sold all their stock in 1984 and retired to Florida.
