In 1860, Gomez donated some of his coffee acreage to the church for use as a vegetable garden. The town's growth was stalled after World War II when public transportation became available only during certain times of day or on very specific routes. However, Mission Viejo has experienced continual growth over the past few decades as more people move into the area and begin making their homes here. Today, Mission Viejo is one of Southern California's most vibrant and economically successful communities with concentrations of businesses, professionals, and residents located throughout five districts: East Village (formerly known as North Park), Downtown/Mission Valley (formerly called South Park), Midtown/Lakewood Ranch (formerly known as Westlake), Pacific Beach/EastLong Beach (formerly known as Fremont Heights), and Stockton Heights/Laguna Hills. These neighborhoods are home to a wide variety of businesses including restaurants, cafes, bars, hair salons, doctor offices, dentists' offices, etc., which together account for more than half a million square feet of business space within walking distance of each other! A recent study conducted by marketing firm Gartner found that Northern California is experiencing explosive growth rates among tech companies due to its favorable locations; however Southern California remains leaders in this industry according to Gartner's latest edition of "Technology Cities." Over time, the coffee industry began to decline in Mission Viejo and many of the businesses closed. However, some of the original businesses that operated in Mission Viejo continue to operate today. One such business is Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf which has been operating since 1978.
Mission Viejo, California is a city located in San Diego County, California. As of the 2010 census, its population was 128,562. It is the largest city in San Diego County by population and the second-largest city in Orange County after Newport Beach. The boundaries of Mission Viejo include parts of La Jolla Village and Point Loma to the north, Sepulveda Boulevard to the east and Mather Avenue to the south. The first Europeans to visit Mission Viejo were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on November 17, 1542 and his Menorca expedition under Sebastian Vizcaino. The mission was founded by Padre Manuel Nieto on May 24, 1795 with Fray Antonio Marginal de Ovando as its first pastor. On October 12 of that year Mexican Captain Andres Pico y Costilla arrived at Mission San José del Valle with two vessels carrying twenty soldiery for defense against Indians near present day City Hall Park on Harbor Drive. In 1821 Guadalupe Victoria served as Regent for Mexico during General Pedro Garza Olinda's absence while he toured North America. She donated land at Point Loma where a new mission would be built just north of what is now known as Old Point Loma Boulevard (the original name given to it when it was part of Rancho Niguel). Construction began on July 21, 1825 and despite some difficulties due primarily to bedrock problems – including one occasion when a boulder weighing 6 tons rolled down a hill onto the construction site – Work continued until December 10th when Governor Alvarado announced that work had been completed “to an excellent standard” He named this new mission Concepción de Jesús after her grandmother who had died in 1840; however religious mainstream Catholicism did not recognize Genova as queen regnant so Concepción became known simply as Santa Ana de la Laguna or "The Lady from La Jolla". On September 2nd 1846 Father Junipero Serra arrived at Mission San José del Valle with three other priests accompanying him from Monterey Bay Naval Station after preaching services aboard USS Constitution which had just returned from Acapulco following its voyage around South Americanine days earlier With American ships currently being used more frequently for commercial purposes than for missionary work at this time there was little tension between U.S./Mexican forces stationed off Southern California coastal areas then called Los Angeles County

Mission Viejo (Spanish: " Missions") is a city in Orange County, California. The population was 33,635 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Los Angeles County after Los Angeles and the most populous city in Orange County. Mission Viejo has been home to Mexican and Spanish settlers for more than two centuries, and today there are over 20 languages spoken within its boundaries. The history of Mission Viejo begins on December 21, 1769 with Father Junípero Serra's arrival on horseback from San Diego following a year-long journey across Southern California. The mission was named La Encantada (the appealing), likely because of the many beautiful citrus trees that grew near it. In 1821, Mexico gained independence from Spain and assigned missions ownership to various Mexican officials as part of their gift to American colonists during the Adams–Onís Treaty. On October 15, 1834, Governor José Felipe de Neve awarded Rancho Santa Margarita ("Holy Mountain"), including Mission San Fernando Rey del Cobre ("Rising Sun") to Friar Juan Bautista Alvarado for his work caring for Indians in what is now downtown LA. After Alvarado's death in 1849, his widow divided his land among her children; however, they failed to sell off all of it soon enough so that it became part of developed Anaheim Hills. In 1888 both sides of Long Beach Boulevard – now known as Sepulveda Boulevard – were renamed "Alameda" Streets after prominent citizens who had donated property or contributed money towards developing the cityscape around them: Bishop George Hill (founder of Downtown LA), Jens Christensen (founder/President & CEO of Lockheed Martin Corporation), Harry Chandler (founder/CEO & CEOof Chubb Insurance Company). During World War II much of Anaheim Hills were destroyed by bombing raids by United States forces as part of Operation Neptune's Spear; however much remains today including dozens of homes built between 1941 and 1945 by Japanese Americans who had been interned during World War II at Topaz Gardens east of downtown LAS VEGAS . After Japan's surrender in 1945Mission Viejo experienced increased growth due to military personnel stationed there during the war period as well as postwar migration from other parts of Southern California lieutenant colonel William Kenney formed a successful real estate company called Kenney Properties which grew into oneof America’s largest development firms before folding in 2002 amidst very public controversy over its practices
Mission Viejo was founded in 1777 on the site of an earlier Pueblo settlement. The initial settlers were Mexican masons who built a small chapel and some homes. In 1821, the mission was secularized and converted into a rancho. In 1864, it became part of California during the Mexican–American War when Mexico ceded it to the United States as part of Alta California. The mission remained in operation until it closed in 1893 due to financial difficulties.
