On 14 January 1862 Constitution suffered damage when a bomb exploded aboard her near Alta Loma; however, she made it back to San Francisco without any casualties or damage on 9 February 1862. That same month she ferried Confederate commissioners across the Pacific Ocean to Negros Island in order to mediate an agreement between California and Texas over that state's northern boundary issue; after reaching that island on 14 February 1862 she anchored off shore until torches were lit and demonstrations began by Texans protesting this move before finally withdrawing all night under cover of darkness). After several months of operations along Southern California's coast providing cover for Union forces retreating fromMexican territory following Lincoln's November 1863 Emancipation Proclamation, Constitution sailed for New York City on 15 May 1865 with orders not to return until further notice; upon arriving there she decommissioned and was placed in storage before being sold at auction in 1886. Marina, California is located in Northern California, about midway between the Bay Area and Los Angeles. It was founded in 1868 as a small community on the bayou called Marina Creek. In 1902, it became an incorporated town. The population of the town peaked at 22,000 in 1940 but declined to 10,000 by 1960. The town has since decreased in size and today has a population of 771 people. The history of Marina begins with its founders: two brothers named John and George Bogan who were investors in coppermining on San Francisco Bay. They decided to establish a small community on what would become known as Marina Creek because they believed that it would provide them with access to valuable resources close to their homes. The first residents of Marina arrived in 1868: John Bogan, his brother George Bogan, their wives and nine children. By 1870, there were only five families living in the creek area and most of these had moved away from San Francisco for reasons such as political instability or economic opportunity. In 1902, when Marin County was established, Marina became one of its first jurisdictions. In 1924, the county consolidated allof Marin into one unit and created Alameda County; however, Marina continued to be part of Contra Costa County until 1959 when it joined Alameda County proper. Sometime after World War II began (1946), development efforts recommenced within Marina due largely to new interest brought about by GI Bill programs which helped veterans find work opportunities outside their home countries during wartime reconstruction periods across America - specifically tank crews working along Interstate 5 through Central Valley towns like Stockton (now Sacramento) and Fresno (now Visalia).
