Rooseveltand later becoming chairman emeritus following his death in 1945 On April 17th 1948 IOL announced its intentionto sell all its assets within three years - this included Long Beach oil fields - becauseproduction options had closed off due to technological advancementsin Venezuela where IOL had purchased crude from Hugo Chávez .
