Naval history is an important part of La Quinta's history. The USS Constitution was the first ship in the United States Navy and served from 1797 to 1801. She was built at the Newport News Shipbuilding Company in Virginia and launched on October 14, 1797. The USS Constitution was a brig-sized warship that could carry up to 24 guns, had a beam of 11 feet 6 inches, and draught of 2 feet 8 inches. She was powered by two pair of steam engines that operated through a reduction gear system. The USS Constitution reached her peak during the War of 1812 when shelled boats off Long Beach Harbor by Ulysses S. Grant's forces resulted in $5 million worth of damage to her hull! After the end of the war, USS Constitution recommissioned on September 1, 1814 under command of Commodore John D'Eyncourt. He served as captain until his death on July 13, 1830 aboard HMS Beagle off Cape Horn. His replacement as captain was Commodore Isaac Watts who served until his own death in 1834 onboard HMS Agincourt off South America coast.(1) After Commodore Watts' death, Admiral James Stockdale took over command but resigned due to poor health on December 15, 1834.(2) Finally, Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter assumed command on January 3, 1835(3) which lasted until he resigned after failing to quench Admirals Seymour Smith's complaints about navy policies with respect to gamefishing vessels.(4)(5) In 1840 Captain John Rodgers assumed command after Commodore Watts' retirement. Rodgers commanded USS Hartford for three years before she sank with all hands off Havana Bay due to negligent navigation.(6)(7) Captain George Fenton (1841-1846), Commander William Jervis (1847-1851), Commander Jeremiah Cutler (1852-1854), Commander Alfred Thayer Mahan (185S-186D), and Commander Edwin Everett Hinson (186E-187F) followed Rodgers during his tenure as commanding officer between 1840 and 186S only brief stints were assigned outside California where Hinson spent mostofhistimeat Norfolk Naval Station afloat duties ashore:(8)-(9). La Quinta, California is a small town located in the San Bernardino County region of Southern California. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. La Quinta is home to the University of Redlands and La Quinta College. It is also home to several shopping malls and restaurants. The first Europeans to visit what is now La Quinta were Spanish missionaries on March 26, 1695. They named it "San Bernardino" after Saint Bernardino of Siena who had been martyred in Italy some years earlier. The area that would become La Quinta was part of Rancho Los Alamos de las Palmas de la Breña which was granted by Governor Manuel Nieto on November 21, 1823 to José Maria Clavería and his wife María Isabel Pacheco. In 1848, Los Alamos landowner John Cohan sold 640 acres (2 km²) northeast of present-day La Quinta for $1 million to James Dominguez and Juan Bautista Alvarado Sr.. On May 10, 1850 Ulysses S. Grant wrote a report on his trip through southern California for Secretary of War Pierce: "I sketch hereon a plan or route making its way from Tucson through Santa Barbara into southern California by way of Rancho los Alamos de las Palmas de la Breña […] I have not seen anything more interesting than this place since my days as an Indian scout." Dominguez leased the land from Alvarado in 1860 and began developing it into a citrus town with mills, Streetsboro Hotel & Casino, Regency Ballroom Theatre, Regency School District No 6 schools (now known as LAUSD), Gorgon Heights Nursing Home #1A & #2A (opened in 1916), Our Lady's Hospital (opened 1922), Villa Park Cemetery & Caretaker's House (opened 1928). The last two buildings are still standing; the caretaker's house is now used as offices for the city government while the cemetery is open every day except Sunday for public viewing from 7 am until 5 pm. After Dominguez' death in 1892 his son Agustín Dominguez took over management but within six months lost control due to financial problems and left the community completely under receivership control before dying in office September 1896 aged only 44 years old having failed to meet payroll requirements twice during his stewardship – one time alone! He was followed four months later by his widow Conchita who alsofailedtomeet payrollrequirementstwiceduringherstewardship –oncealone! A group including local businessmen Jerald Ritchie and Roy Chapman bought Agustin's assets back from receivership trustees on January 1st 1897 renamed themselves Trustees Of The Community Of La Quinta And Its Dependent Properties Incorporated –the first business entity registered with state authorities within our town limits! They immediately began rebuilding infrastructure including reopening Streetsboro Hotel & Casino; completing work on Our Lady's Hospital; putting new roofs on bothousesandlaunchingan advertisingcampaigntoraise Funds For repairsneededAtTheCommunity;" etc.) These efforts resulted in increased tourism revenues which helped finance important projects such as library renovation; water main replacement; enlargement OfRegencyBallroom TheatreTo accommodatingmorepopulations;replacementOfGorgon Heights Nursing HomeWithAnnewOne&launchoftheFirst TelevisedGameofBasketballInTheTown In1998) etc…) Upon their incorporation Trustees became responsible for all property transactions within their boundaries whether it be selling or buying any type of asset within our Town Limits-includingreal estate transactions!"

La Quinta, California is a small town located in Imperial County, California. The population was 1,674 at the 2010 census. La Quinta has a rich history that goes back to 1853 when it was part of Rancho San Diego. La Quinta was first called "New Venice" and then "Venice." In 1868, the town became known as "La Quinta," after General Antonio Lopez de la Hoz's rancho (ranch). It originally consisted of two small settlements: Venice and New Venice. In 1872, the railroad arrived in La Quinta and changed the name to its current one. The community has experienced various boom-and-bust cycles throughout its history. However, it remains an important cultural and economic center in the county. The early years of La Quinta's existence were difficult because of its location on a major route connecting Los Angeles with San Francisco and other parts of California. However, by 1870, development had begun at least around the corner from what is now Center Street on First Avenue South (now Fourth Street) with shops such as groceries and hardware available for purchase or rent along with several homes built for citrus farmers who exported their crops to Europe. In 1873–74, during Mexican American War era hostilities between Mexico and America erupted into full-blown violence across California; much like today’s Border Wars between US states over issues such as illegal immigration or wind energy production within our borders – cattle drives were staged through rural areas near La Quinta seeking refuge from Ulysses S Grant’s army encamped outside Bakersfield; this drove many people out into Roadan wilderness where they roamed unguarded until spring rains washed them away leaving behind evidence of their presence including pieces of wagon frames still standing today (photo below). These “roaders” may have been Protectores Chilenos who traveled westward from Veracruz looking for trade goods needed for rebuildingNAVY LANDING - VIEW FROM SANTA BARBARA CA - OCTOBER 1794 During these dark times there were also some bad actors operating in this area selling liquor to soldiers on both sides which unfortunately led to quite some trouble especially due to José María Castro being one such individual Castro ran a saloon/brothel which got him into big trouble with General Crocker but he eventually sold his interests in la hacienda y el puerto deVeracruz so he could avoid military service He later moved back eastward across US border but continued operations here until his death in 1902 . Unfortunately most Calafia residents lost touch with reality after 1906 when statewide telephone regulations went into effect making long distance calls prohibitively expensive even though many families still used post office facilities during these times .
