Gilroy, California is a town of around 70,000 people located in the San Joaquin Valley on the east side of the Bay Area of California. The first coffeehouses were opened in this area in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The first coffee shop in Gilroy was called The Coffee House and it was open from 1892 to 1896. It was located on Main Street and served as a meeting place for local farmers and merchants. In 1906, The Coffee House moved to its current location on First Street. It was still serving coffee until it closed its doors in 1970. After closure of the original Coffee House, other businesses began opening up around Gilroy such as The Café du Lac which operated from 1916-1917 and then again from 1951-1957; Green Gazzard which opened at 1115 First St., Gilroy in 1942; Cafe de la Terraza (now known as Bottega Veneta) which opened at 6th & Mission Streets in 1957; Starbucks’ first store opened at 3507 Second St., Gilroy in 1986; finally Zabar’s Marketfront Grill which opened at 555 Neches St., Gilroy in 1984). All these businesses started out with small beginnings but gradually grew over time into highly respected establishments that still serve quality coffee today. The history of gourmet coffee begins with two Danish immigrants who arrived in San Francisco Bay Area during the early 1800s looking for new opportunities: Ole Kirk Christiansen and his brother Peder Kirk Christiansen (the father of Stanislaus County Supervisor Milt Franks). Ole Kirk Christiansen founded what became known as Christian Brothers Coffee Company Ltdorporated (CBCl), one of the most successfulearly commercialcoffeehouses operatingin North America. CBCl soon became oneofthelargestandmost prominentcoffeehousesinNorthAmericaandran afewroundtoeconnectwith discerningcustomersfromalloverTheUpper MidwestandInternationally. By 1890, he had built up a large inventory including both Arabica beans sourced from Holland and Robusta beans sourced from Italy—two years after imported Italian espresso machines began arriving en masse across America! Gilroy, California is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 30,837 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of San Luis Obispo County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Gilroy were the Spanish on October 17, 1769 when they set up a mission on Rancho Santa Margarita (now part of the city). The Mexican-American War (1848–1849) and its aftermath led to increased Anglo settlement in central and southern California; as a result, much of what is now Gilroy was developed as part of the town or rural area adjacent to San Francisco Bay. The City of Gilroy was founded on November 15, 1851 by white men who had purchased land east of Mission Street from José Castro and his brother Antonio Castro. In 1876 it became part of the newly created San Luis Obispo County; however it again became an independent municipality in 1916 when it annexed parts of Carpinteria and Moraga counties. During World War II Gilroy saw some heavy military activity due to its strategic location between Alameda and Marin counties along American FSB (the only navigable sea route between North America and Europe at that time). The city’s economy grew rapidly during wartime because of shipbuildingyards begun by General Motors Corporation in nearby El Sobrante but ended after World War II because many jobs moved offshore to countries such as Japan or Korea. After the war several smaller businesses replaced GM plants closed down but has since recovered with new companies such as Pacific Gas & Electric Company which built a power line out from downtown through downtown's old landfill into hills nearmaden Reservoir for Hydroelectric purposes On January 1st 2009 Gilroy Mayor Bob Filner announced plans for $30 million worth of redevelopment including an estimated 5500 new housing units over 10 years that would include job creation within existing neighborhoods و In March 2014 Mayor Bob Filner ordered all public works employees working without pay through September while he conducted an audit into their expenses

Gilroy is a town in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 5,927 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Kern County after Bakersfield. The first permanent settler in what is now Gilroy was James Waddell in 1853. Waddell and his family were among the original settlers of Kern County and founded the town of Palmdale on March 3, 1854. They named their new community for General Mariano Vallejo, then Governor of Alta California. A post office called Vallejo was established in 1855, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1914. In 1871, Joseph Pappert leased land from Humboldt County to establish a village on the east side of State Route 3 near today's Interstate 580; Pappert's name remains as an unofficial landmark at that location today. However, due to extreme heat waves during these years there never developed a village; however many small businesses do remain around that time such as souvenir stores and general store back alleys which still exist today with updated signage despite being off limits to most visitors today (due to fire inspections). The current location where PappERT Village once sat emerged when part of what is now state Route 58 was rerouted 2 miles eastward between I-580 and Sutter Creek Valley Drive following the 1994 Loma Prieta earthquake swarm; this newly created roadway included much of what is now City Park across SR 58 from Pioneer Boulevard westward through downtown GILROY to present day Sutter Creek Valley Drive southbound approaching I-580
Gilroy has been a center for agricultural production and trade for over 10,000 years. The city was founded in 1846 by Gabriel Orozco and named after Mission San Francisco de los Arroyos, which was the first Spanish mission in Alta California. It became an American town on January 27, 1851 when it was accepted as part of the Rancho San Bernardino Mexican land grant. The town experienced rapid growth during the late 1800s due to its location near Los Angeles and its access to irrigation water from canals dug through the mountains.
