He started building what would become Wigglesworth Mansion which he named "The Castle" after himself. On June 26th 1870 his wife Anna married James Purdy (1841-1927), son of wealthy Senator John Purdy (1815-1867). James Purdy had been born into a prominent family in Boston whose members had control over much of eastern Massachusetts during the early days of American settlement there. Anna's parents were English immigrants Thomas Arnold Purdy and Susannah Greenough Purdy. After their marriage they moved to Fullerton where they began raising two children: Jameson AlicePurdy (born July 7th 1865) who graduated from Teachers College at Columbia University with her Bachelors degree in 1888;and Elisabeth JanePurdy (born October 15th 1870), also a teacher when she became Mrs. James Purate Jr.'s wife in 1897; both daughters attended college together at Columbia University until 1890 when their father died suddenly leaving them all unmarried again.* Upon Mr. Wigglesworth's death his heirs divided his estate among themselves but it was not until 1907 when one such heir - Mrs Sarah Jaffe - inherited all his property including "The Castle".
