The United States Army deployed gift history in Folsom, California in 1862 during the American Civil War. The Folsom Museum of Military History and Heritage is located in this small town and has a collection of over 10,000 items related to the military. In 1862, Folsom was one of three towns in Kern County that were annexed into the newly created city of Sacramento. The annexation process left behind many artifacts from the old town that are now part of the Folsom Museum of Military History and Heritage. In 1865, when Sacramento became an independent city, it donated two cannons to be used as artillery by the new City Battalion (Folsom). These cannons still stand today at 4th and Stock Streets in downtown Folsom. During World War II, General MacArthur's forces landed here on July 8th 1944 for their Operation Husky campaign against Japan. This site was also where ammunition storage tanks were placed for use during combat. After World War II ended, these tanks were removed from service and stored at various locations around California until they were finally moved to Reno, Nevada in 1969. Today they can be seen outside of Humboldt County Courthouse at 287 E street N near Civic Center Mall. Today there is a museum located inside the old high school which tells the story of gifts given by Americans during wartime time period including finds from WWII and other conflicts such as Korea and Viet Nam

Upon their return to America they were assigned to VII Corps under General Douglas MacArthur where they participated in campaigns from Anzio beachhead through Okinawa island campaign and Battle of Leyte Gulf where they received one battle star for wounds suffered while fighting off an enemy counterattack on July 21st 1944 This battalion is also noted for having been awarded a Purple Heart for Pvt Jameson Smith who received his injury after going through a doorstop when his tank hit a minefield near Bataan Peninsula on October 25th 1945
Folsom, California is a city in Sacramento County, California. The population was 165,357 at the 2010 census. It is the second largest city in Northern California after San Francisco and it is also the most populous city in Sacramento County. Folsom is located on the north side of Interstate 5 and has a population density of 2,571 people per square mile (1,049/km²). The first Europeans to visit Folsom were members of the Spanish expedition led by Gaspar de Portolà in 1769. They built a small fort on an hill near present-day Folsom Street and Mission Road. The town was founded as part of Rancho Viejo grant given to José Joaquin Bernal Dominguez and Manuel Nieto by Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado on November 4, 1827. Gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill about 10 miles east of town on April 6, 1848; this made Folsom one of history's earliest goldmining towns. A post office called "Folsom" was established at this location on December 3rd, 1848; it remained in operation until January 1st, 1889 when it became part of Sacramento City. In 1907 John Wetherbee became owner and operator of what are now known as Wetherbee Bros., grocery stores which quickly grew into one of America's leading grocers with locations throughout the United States

Folsom is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 27,822 at the 2010 census. Folsom is located on the west side of the Sacramento River and is part of the Sacramento–San Joaquin Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. It has been inhabited by indigenous peoples for thousands of years and was known as Cahokia before it became an American town in 1848. The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1821 when Jedediah Smith and his party from Oregon reached Folsom Landing on the Sacramento River. A year later, John Sutter founded Stockton on what are now Interstate 5 and Nevada Avenue east of Folsom. In 1824, President James K. Polk authorized Mormon missionaries to establish a mission at Folsom Falls which they did in 1828 with José García Cisneros as their leader. The missions were discontinued after 1840 because of persecution by Chinese Americans living in California under Mission Rule (1849-1860). In 1847, Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner" while stationed at Fort Point on San Francisco Bay; published it anonymously and then dedicated it to Admiral Thomas Hughes on October 14th 1865 near Shoreline Park near where he lived until his death less than two months later due to complications from pneumonia contracted during a naval skirmish off Alcatraz Island. After Key's death, local residents gathered around his tomb until May 6th 1886 when City Hall ordered removal of all remains from within city limits without further ado. On October 3rd 1906 Mayor George Norris called for plans for creating a new city hall to be presented to him that would include designs by Charles Wetherbee with block bldings being erected The first mayor Culliton dissolved the old City Hall on July 1st 1907 when he decided that building funds should be used instead for improvements to Municipal Park which included baseball diamonds and tennis courts. At this time there were only 7 blocks in total () so incorporation wasn't possible until 1909 when 10 blocks had been annexed into the city limits.
