Maga Coffee is a Costa Mesa, California-based coffee company that has been in business since 1994. The shop was first opened by two friends, Carlos and Jesus Gomez, who among other things started the now-defunct Bay Area Bean Company. Maga Coffee is one of the oldest coffee companies still in operation in the OC area. In 1994, Carlos Gomez opened Maga Coffee with his friend Jesus Gomez. In 2006, maga reopened its original location at 9th & Ivar streets after nearly 20 years of closure. The cafe's origins can be traced back to Carlos Gomez's days as a staffer at Bay Area Bean Company (now known as First Timer beans). After working there for several years, he and his friend Jesús Gomez decided to open their own store. Initially they did only wholesale quantities of beans but soon began selling their own products too. In 1994 they were joined by husband/wife team Bernardo Reyes and Sandy Petersen (formerly of Donut Shop) who both worked alongside them at the shop until 2001 when Reyes left to start his own coffee house called Monterey Cafe on State Street in Pacific Beach. As time went on it became clear that there was demand for more than just Costa Mesa's average cup of Joe - some people wanted something more unique or special from their morning caffeine fix. So in 1998 Carlos and Jesús teamed up again with partners Chad Hargrave and Robyn Schneider to open an concept store called "Maga'z" which sold specialty coffee from all over the world sourced through direct relationships with farmers and roasters around the world; this allowed for truly unique experiences not often found within mainstream retail outlets (much like what happens today when you visit a coffee farm or roastery near you). This innovative approach paid off as customers came back multiple times monthly for different presentations on how to enjoy fresh roasted coffees from different parts of the world while experiencing new flavors never before available hereabouts! A few years later they introduced another concept store called "Bean Station" which focused exclusively on alternative bean blends - this time sourced directly from small batch roasters throughout North America! By 2004 they had reached such levels of success that they decided it was time to move out into their current space at 9th & Ivar Streets - a large warehouse conversion former TV station which had been sitting vacant for many years! They moved into their new digs fully renovated with state-of-the-art amenities including an impressively equipped café where customers can chat about all things related to coffee - whether it be brewing methods or single origin chocolate layers! From then on everything changed as we know it – MAGA COFFEE became synonymous with quality, innovation, taste and community involvement!
