During World War II, Coronados munitions plant produced aircraft fuel oil for America's war effort. After the war, however, the plant closed down and many jobs went away. However, since 2000Coronado has seen an increase in development due to its location on the county's eastern edge overlooking Qualcomm Stadium and Mission Bay waterfront area. This has led to new businesses coming into town such as restaurants, retail stores, office buildings, condominiums and a new hospital/medical center (CALM). In addition to this recent development there has also been an increasing number of tourists visitingCoronado because it offers a variety of activities such as hiking or sailing that can be enjoyed in both summertimeand wintertime conditions

In order to make a high quality cup of coffee, it took many years of experience and expertise for the coffee growers to perfect their methods and techniques. This process culminated with the first commercially produced espresso machine in 1875. The growth of the coffee industry throughout North America, Europe, and Asia led to a new type of consumer: the diner. Diners were interested in unique flavors and were willing to pay for high-quality products. With more people living close by who could enjoy fresh pressed coffee, small batch production became an important part of this market. Today, small batch production is still vital to the flavor profile and quality of some of the world's most popular coffees.

Coronado, California was founded by Spanish traders in 1769 as part of the Don Juan de Monterey Expedition. The area now includes San Diego and most of Riverside County. The first Presidio of San Diego was erected in 1821 on the east side of present-day downtown San Diego. The mission was abandoned in 1825 after a severe drought led to a Reduction Mission uprising against its leader, Father Francisco Bancroft. The land that is now Coronado was originally part of Rancho Santa Fe de Tijuana, granted to José Antonio Nieto in 1824. In 1830, Mexican President Vicente Guerrero granted Rancho Coronado to Mariano Castro and his brother Pedro Castro for the purpose of helping American settlers establish ranchos throughout California. In 1840, Jose Antonio Nieto sold Rancho Santa Fe de Tijuana to Edwin Coe for $8 million. The Coes reorganized it into eight grants: Rancho El Cajón (1841), Rancho Encinal (1842), Rancho Padres (1843), Rancho Nuevo Leyes (1845), Rinconada del Norte (1846), Rinconada del Sur (1848–50), and Los Coyotes y la Gila (1851). In 1850, Captain Charles Humboldt discovered oil in what is now Imperial Valley and characterized the site as “the best prospect for petroleum ever found on this continent” He leased portions of these lands from the Coes to Shell Oil Company in 1902 and patented them as the Imperial Valley Field Reserve. In 1912, when Francis Drake sighted oil reserves off Point Conception he suggested drilling there but no oil production commenced until 1969 when an API wellhead became operational at West Mesa Naval Base near Page Field

The city of Coronado was founded in 1839 by Captain Manuel Nieto and his family. The City of Coronado was part of the Mexican Empire until it joined the United States in 1848. In 1850, the City of Coronado became a dry town and was abandoned in 1853. In 1908, the City of Coronado was re-established as a city with a population of over 50,000 people.
