The Corona Army deployment gift history goes back to 1951 when the city of Corona, California was selected as the site for a United States Army post. The first unit to arrive in Corona was the 9th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Fort Bliss, Texas. The brigade arrived on November 1, 1951 and soon began its duties garrisoning various military sites within the city limits. On December 20, 1951, President Harry S Truman presented an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws to Brigadier General Don L. Henson in appreciation for his services to the United States Army during World War II. That same day, Colonel John W. Burdick relieved Major General Leroy J. Cook as Commanding Officer of the 9th Infantry Brigade Combat Team after serving with distinction in that unit during World War II and Korea. In 1957, the City of Corona voted to annex their portion of unincorporated territory east of I-5 and south of Nueces River which forms today's eastern border with San Bernardino County. This annexation led to the erection of two new posts within municipal boundaries – one at 16th Street and Vine Street in central Corona and another at what is now 134th Avenue and Riggs Road in southeastern corner near Dana Point Naval Air Station. These new posts became known respectively as Post #2 (the eastern side) and Post #3 (the western side). A year later on October 1st, 1958 2nd Battalion 5th Marines (Marine Barracks) arrived from Camp Pendleton Navy Yard via Terminal Island Marine Transport Service helicopter following a month long wait by ship from Japan . The battalion initially served under 3rd Marine Division until it was shifted to Headquarters & Headquarters Company 4th Marine Division upon its arrival in California . On October 12, 1959 2/5 Marines received their first baptism of fire when they were called into action against Viet Cong forces encamped along Highway 6 north-west of Saigon . “The company’s involvement went beyond itself; members acted as human shields for other Marines who were being pelted by rounds from automatic weapons fire” reported Captain Charles Fenton commanding officer 2/5 Marines at that time.. A year later on January 10 1960 while engaged in amphibious landing operations ashore at Dak Toi airfield near Da Nang , Captain Fenton's unit encountered enemy forces who had infiltrated our positions through control points located adjacent thereto .. With intense machine gun fire coming from all directions we successfully evacuated casualties which included several commandos killed .. [This] set an example for future marines who would be called into action where similar feats could be accomplished without loss or injury

Corona is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 43,812 at the 2010 census. Corona is located on the eastern edge of Kern County and includes most of the unincorporated community of Bakersfield. It is part of the larger Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent residents in what would become Corona were two brothers, Don and Jack Crispin, who started a grove of trees near their small rancho in 1853. In 1865, they sold all their holdings to James Folsom for $10 per acre (2¢ per pound), which made him one of the richest men in Kern County. Folsom named his new town after himself and founded a school and church there. The first post office opened in 1872 with Wm. Hutton as its first mail carrier; it moved to its present location in 1876. In 1886, controversy over water rights led to violence between settlers and local Native Americans known as the "Mescalero War". After several days of skirmishes that left five people dead and many homes destroyed, Spanish troops arrived to put an end to it; they burned much of Rancho San Carlos Apache land north of Corona if not all of it because they considered it Mexican territory under Spanish rule (the area now known as Devolvera). In 1903, when San Bernardino county was established from parts of Kern and Los Angeles counties, Corona became one of its original municipalities. It grew rapidly during World War II due to bomber activity from nearby Lancaster airport; by 1945 it had reached 100,000 residents within its limits plus an enclosing rural area totaling . As San Bernardino County declined during the postwar years into what has been called "the Great Gatsby Era", Corona continued growing slowly but steadily until reaching extremely high levels following the 1995 Northridge earthquake which increased population by 25%. However since then growth rates have slowed somewhat while infrastructure has been invested more heavily in other communities within Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area such as Walnut Creek Canyon/Canoga Park or Hesperia From 1990-2010 median household income increased 24%. The percentage female (%) has also risen consistently since 2000 while male unemployment stubbornly remains at a high 8%. Despite this progressivism some challenges still remain such as large percentages minority populations living below poverty lines despite significant progress made historically (16% for Hispanics compared to 36% statewide)

Corona was founded in 1824 by Antonio Vallejo and Juan Bautista Correa. The area now known as Corona was part of Rancho San Francisco, granted to José Maria García in 1776. In 1824, the first post office was established in the town, and it remained until 1865. The first city hall was built in 1872. Afterward, Corona became a part of the larger city of Los Angeles on January 1,metropolitan area on January 1,1927.
