Clayton, California is a small town located on the Pacific coast of Northern California. The town was founded in 1868 by John F. Clayton and his wife, Sarah A. Clayton. The first Coast Guard Station in Clayton was established in 1912. In 1938, the Coast Guard Station moved to its present location on Main Street. In 1984, the Coast Guard Station opened a museum which displays artifacts from the history of the Coast Guard in Clayton and Northern California. In 1996, a new station building was constructed and dedicated to the memory of World War II veteran Commander Wm. Halsey “Bill” Posey. The Coast Guard Auxiliary has been providing service to local residents for over 100 years!
