By 1979-1980, The Gun Club had become a fully automatic fire range which allowed members to shoot pistols without having to reload them often. Bell, California is a town located in Kern County, California. The population was 10,883 at the 2010 census. It is the largest community in Kern County by population and it is also the second most populous city in Kern County after Bakersfield. The name of the town comes from Bellingham, Washington and it was incorporated as a town on December 7, 1885. The first post office in Bell was established on December 2, 1887. The first settler in Bell was Hiram Lyon who arrived on horseback from Oregon on January 14th of that year. He named his new land "Bellingham" after his home state of Washington. In 1907, a school district called Morenci School District No 1 was organized and started operations in what is now the eastern part of Belltown (northwest of downtown). That same year saw the establishment of a water works system that provides water to all residents within municipal limits including parts of northwestern Kern County as well as southern Placer County. In 1913 when more than 4500 people lived within Municipal Limits there were only 9 telephone poles with service available! On July 15th 1915 voters passed an ordinance creating City Hall which served as the primary public building for all local government functions until replaced by present day Main Street Plaza on October 1st 1965. On November 16th 1916 incorporation proceedings were held for what would become known as "the 3 Towns" (Bellingham Junction/Westwood/Easton) with Easton becoming an official city under its own charter dated February 11th 1917. On March 5th 1922 another ordinance repealed all previous ordinances and created City Hall Annex #1 which served as our present day Civic Center until demolished in 1984 due to arson! On September 20th 1929 local officials proclaimed a weather emergency due to drought conditions throughout much of Southern California; however this declaration did not result in any relief or assistance being provided by either federal or private agencies during this time period! In 1932-1933 several homes were destroyed by fire while still under construction near today's downtown area; however no one ever been arrested or charged for these fires! In 1938-1939 another school district called Morenci Union School District No 6 was formed with schools located east of downtown serving students from west side neighborhoods along Dominguez Road between Fourth Street and Seventh Avenue which became known locally as "The West Side". This school district eventually merged into PLASA Unified School District effective January 1st 1964 when both districts were combined into one large educational entity managed by then Superintendent Don Armstrong through then Deputy Superintendent Herb Carrington until their merger into PLASA Unified School District effective fall 2014 - making bell park our newest AND biggest community!!
