The history of marine gift in Paragould, Arkansas goes back to the 1800s. At that time, the area was a natural shipping port and many people bought and sold goods from the sea. Some of these people were famous merchants such as Daniel Webster and James Buchanan Polk. In 1952, Congress passed the Marine Mammal Protection Act which outlawed hunting of whales and dolphins in American waters. This law made Paragould an important place for marine gifts because it prohibited anyone from taking any marine mammals without a permit from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
Paragould is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–East Stroudsburg, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Paragould" was given to the town by General David Parry when he and his unit were traveling through central Arkansas in 1836. The first white settler in what would become Paragould was James Wofford in 1837. A year later, John Huffman established a farm there and began selling goods from his store on Main Street. In 1840, General Nathan Bedford Forrest arrived in Arkansas and needed someone to tend to his horses so he could travel around the state looking for Indian Wars locations. Forrest chose Paragould as the site for his new headquarters because it had a large cotton crop that could support him and his cavalrymen. In 1845, Isaac Myers opened a grocery store on Main Street and soon started offering goods from his three farms located around town - Old Hickory Farm (now known as East Hickory Road), Tolbert's Pasture near mile marker 9 on U.S. Route 42/Arkansas Highway 171 (now I-40), and New Beginnings Estate just north of US 41/Arkansas Highway 172 (now FM 1960). By 1865, Myers' store had outgrown its space on Main Street so he built a two-story wooden building on what is now First Avenue between US 65/Arkansas Highway 171 (now I-35) and FM 1960 east of town square about 2 miles northeast of downtown Lee’s Store which still stands today." Businesses like Myers' allowed people to buy food they couldn't get anywhere else or sell goods they couldn't carry home with them when they traveled downrange for Indian War activities such as fights at Fort Sumter or battles at Gettysburg. These businesses kept locals alive during times when other forms of economic activity would have collapsed under the weight of war effort alone. By 1870, more than 100 residents lived in Paragould; most were farmers who raised corn, cotton, potatoes, eggs, beef cattle or hogs along with providing jobs for local mechanics and fishermen who fished off the banks of Whitewater River near where it empties into Arkoma Lake outside Of Town Square into which all streets emptied onto one another forming what are now First Avenue Northeast (formerly US 65), Second Avenue Southeast (formerly US 61), Third Avenue Southwest ( formerly US 64)and Fourth Avenue Northwest which join together just northeast of downtown Lee’s Store today." With this increase in population came an increased demand for housing which led to construction of two LDSChurch temples – one northwest of downtown Paragould across from Old Hickory Farm until 1892 when it burned down; also southwest of downtown by White Sands Boulevard until 1954 when it burnt down again; both structures remain standing today." In 1902 Rev C[harles] Higginson organized parishes within Pulaski County under authority granted by Utah Territorial Governor George Smith who stated “I desire that these Latter Day Saints may be represented throughout our Territory without having their religious services conducted in distanticoities….It will be but right that we should gather together some competent pastors hereabouts to conduct our religious services properly within our own limits…." This event marked an important change not only because Mormons were required by law to hold religious services within their own territory but also because Pulaski County became self-governing after Utah ceded its sovereignty back to America following World War II." In 1932 Donny [Donnelley] Reed organized a group called "Nephi Society" headquartered at 711 S Clinton Ave NE ParAGOLD(Donnelley)] After Donny's death members decided not anymore share information & disbanded organization Dec 2002
The marine gift history goes back to the beginning of time. The first human beings who set foot on the planet Earth discovered that there were other worlds out there and began exploring them with their eyes wide open. They found that there was a great diversity in the environment and creatures that lived on these planets, so they began trade and commerce with these civilizations in order to get what they needed for themselves and their families. One of the most important items that people traded was food. This was a necessary commodity for humans because they didn’t have any other way to survive on Earth. The marine gift history is full of delicious gifts that were given to others in order to show our appreciation for their presence on our planet. Some of the most famous marine gift recipients include King Tutankhamun, Queen Elizabeth I, Ulysses S. Grant, Osama bin Laden, and Captain Cook. It doesn’t stop at just Humans however, as other species have also received maritime gifts over time such as dolphins, seals, whales, and sea snakes. Even though we can no longer produce seafood ourselves, it still makes sense to give something along with our compliments when giving a gift related to seafood!
