As Arkansas becomes known for its wine and coffee production, so too does the states of North Little Rock and West Little Rock become major areas of artisan coffee production. Starting in the late 1800s, these two towns developed a strong relationship with their local roasteries. At first, the roasters only supplied their own towns with beans. However, over time they began to deal with other roasters as well. This gave the townspeople a chance to try different coffees and get feedback on what they liked and didn't like. It was also through this process that they became familiar with each other's products and started to share recipes and advice. It wasn't until about 1970 that North Little Rock began importing whole beans from Java (the country where Sumatra Coffee is sourced). At this point, the town had become very comfortable with being part of an international coffee community. North Little Rock, Arkansas is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 25,822 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. North Little Rock is located in the central region of Arkansas and bordered by Hot Springs to the east and northeast, Clinton City to the north, and Fayetteville to the southwest. In 1863 Major General John C. Frémont explored what is now Arkansas while on his way from Texas to California. He discovered that parts of what is now Pulaski County were part of Indian Territory and he named it for General Nathaniel Lyon who had been commandant general of Indian Territory during this time period. In 1868 Congress passed an act providing for a town site in what is now North Little Rock and named it after Frémont's headquarters at Fort Smith, Arkansas which was then located near present-day Arkadelphia. The first settler in North LittleRock was John Silliman who arrived about 1875.
