Jonesboro, Arkansas is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. Jonesboro is the county seat of Pulaski County. It is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville metropolitan area. The state capital, AR, is located in Jonesboro. The first human beings to live permanently in what would become Jonesboro were three Quakers who came there in 1819 from Pennsylvania and built a farmstead on the present site of downtown. In 1836, John Fenton purchased land east of town and founded the townsite of Fentonville to house his new settlers; he named it after himself and his father-in-law General James Hinton (1796–1868), commander of U.S. forces during the Mexican War (1846–48). In 1881, when Pulaski County was created from parts of neighboring Woodruff County, Jonesboro became its county seat with a population of 694 residents; it had been used as a small village for several years before that date. By 1910 its population had reached 9,827 and it remains one of Arkansas' largest cities today (though its size makes it one of few Utopian communities in the country). Today's economy centers around manufacturing: many Arkansans are employed by Boeing Company as airplane pilots or engineers; other heavy industries include aluminum production and refining; chemical processing helps supply much needed manufactured goods to local markets; farming provides food for more than 100 thousand people who range from farmers living on subsistence levels to major industrial users such as Tyson Foods Inc., JBS Agricultural Corporation and Coca Cola Coke Bottling plants which have brought new life to downtown areas adjacent to Interstate 40/I-40E/Uconnect Parkway
There has been a long and colorful history of the United States National Guard, both during and after World War II. From its inception in 1917 until the present day, the Guard has been a vital part of our country’s defense. As one of the oldest standing military institutions in America, the Guard has played an important role in American history and culture. The National Guard was created on July 1st, 1917 when President Woodrow Wilson established a temporary national guard force to support World War I efforts. The first nationwide call for enlistment into service came two years later on November 6th, 1918. By 1920 there were over 100,000 Guardsmen serving in all 50 states. During World War II the National Guard played an even more vital role than it had during World War I due to its expanded presence overseas as well as its unique relationship with the Department of Defense (DoD). In 1940 there were over 350,000 Guardsmen serving overseas with assignments including duty at home - something that would not be possible today without modern technology and transportation capabilities. The ability for Guardsmen to serve abroad also helped contribute to America’s wartime success. After World War II ended there was much discussion about how best to handle postwar population growth and rising social tensions across America resulting from technological advancements such as television and automobiles. As part of this discussion various proposals were made regarding how best to disperse resources between civilian federal agencies and unitary military organizations while ensuring that individual Guardsmen could maintain their traditions and identities within these larger entities. Ultimately, no single proposal emerged that could satisfy everyone involved; instead multiple proposals evolved culminating in the establishment of the National Guard Bureau on October 15th 1946 which would eventually become known as The Army Reserve Command (ARCOM). In 1960 ARCOM became responsible for all armed forces reserve units including those composed of members from state militias who did not fall under DoD jurisdiction or control. At this time also began changes within The Army itself with a move from traditional drill/studies leading up to full-fledged “Army Officer Training Corps” (AOTC) degrees becoming standard practice starting in 1963 followed by warrant officer training beginning in 1966.. This shift led directly to increased opportunities for young enlisted soldiers fresh out of high school or college to gain experience before being drafted into active duty or Selected Service Units (SSU) upon graduation from basic training*. These opportunities included deployments throughout Americal Africa*, Europe*(including Operation Overlord), Southeast Asia*, South Pacific*(such as Bougainville*)and Okinawa*. During this period nationally organized guard detachments also participated in numerous community service projects such as building schools or repairing bridges.* *Note: Some soldiers may have served outside Americas territorial areas such as Japan where services provided may have differed materially

Jonesboro, Arkansas is a city in Johnson County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 113 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–online small town designation. The name "Jonesboro" comes from the Cherokee word jonesa or "hometown." The first settler in Jonesboro was John Glover who arrived in 1819. He and his family built a log cabin on the bank of the Arkoma River. In 1825, James Denton came to Jonesboro and established a gristmill and sawmill on what is now Highway 7A. By 1830, there were two stores in town: one by Wirt Moore and another by Elijah Whitfield. A post office was established at Jonesboro in 1832, but it was discontinued in 1865 because no travelers would take advantage of it due to its remote location. In 1836, Nathan Griggs became the first teacher in Jonesboro when he took up residence near Main Street and Second Avenue. In 1840, Amos Grimes set up a blacksmith shop on Third Street between Elm and Commerce Streets which became known as Gray's Armory after Amos' son-in-law Jesse Grimes who served as its proprietor for many years. By 1850, there were twelve businesses operating within the limits of present day Jonesboro: four stores (two by WirtMoore & Moore and four by ElijahWhitfield), three mills (one with power wind turbines), two blacksmith shops (AmosGrimes & NathanielGriggs respectively), one printing press (the First National Bank) and one physician's office (Drury & Son). By 1860, almost all businesses had moved out of town or been destroyed by fire except for two schools which still remain standing today - School District 1 Elementary School located just off US 52 southbound exit ramp off I-40 eastbound lanes next to Walmart store; District 2 Middle School located across from Dollar General store on Hwy 4 northbound exit ramp adjacent to Goodyear tire factory; both buildings are currently used as apartments/condominiums/retail centers
