Navy gift history in Surprise, Arizona dates back to the early 1920s when the city of Surprise, Arizona first emerged as a small town on the eastern edge of Tucson. The area now known as Surprise was then a farming community and its residents were mostly farmers who raised livestock and hams. Although there was no navy at this time, sailors did visit the area for supplies and lodging while on their way to or from missions in Mexico City. In 1923, surveyors arrived in Surprise to map out what would become Tucson and made note of a large salt water tank located near the intersection of South First Street and West Apache Boulevard. This tank later became known as Naval Air Station (NAF) Marana Field. In 1932, NAF Marana Field was renamed Naval Air Station (NAF) Tucson after Admiral Ishmael M. Knox, Commander in Chief US Atlantic Fleet. At this time, it became one of America's leading naval air stations with a variety of aviation capabilities including: an aluminum hangar which could hold up to 100 aircraft; two runways; an air station restaurant; barracks for 1,500 enlisted men and officers; a ammunition depot; three torpedo tubes; and an oil refinery. The facilities soon proved inadequate for the increasing number of military aircraft being flown by Navy pilots during World War II. Accordingly, NAF Tucson converted into an all-weather seaplane ground airport named Kirtland Field on April 3, 1941 following completion of construction by Vought-Hale Aircraft Corporation subsidiary North American Aviation Company (NORA). With Kirtland Field operational, Navy fighter planes began operations against Axis forces over southern Europe in 1942 under Lieutenant Commander Third Class Charles H Wright Jr.. It should be noted that Wright had previously been flying P-38 Lightning fighters for the Marine Corps during World War II before joining NAS Tucson as Squadron Leader/ Wing Commander/Air Group controller responsible for all fighter squadron activity at NAF Tucson from late 1941 until his death on October 15th 1945 while flying his last combat mission over Normandy involving four P-40D Mustangs flown simultaneously formationally with LtCdr Wright’s Mustang squadron…the largest single action undertaken by any United StatesAAF unit during World War II’ Kirtland Field remained active through most of World War II but eventually decommissioned effective September 15th 1945 due to lack of use along with many other NAFs across America due to Japan's surrender days earlier. By this time however NAS Tucson had resumed operation as Republic Airport serving Phoenix through May 14th 1946 when that airport was closed permanently due to budget cutting within the U.S Navy by Secretary James Forrestal . Although Republic Airport never reached its potential it did serve some purpose other than becoming Phoenix's primary commercial airport which is why it is still used today albeit with various uses such as agriculture/hydroponic research facilities etc.. As mentioned above NAS Tucson also played host to numerous naval air shows throughout the years both publically held events attended by thousands OF Sailors & civilians alike while also hosting numerous international meetings including meetings between Japanese Emperor Hirohito & Franklin D Roosevelt during WWII...a meeting which finally led to Japan ceding sovereignty over Taiwan back unto China just prior TO THE SURRENDER OF JAPAN !!!!!

Surprise, Arizona is a small town located in Pinal County. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pinal County. Surprise has a latitude of 34 degrees 33 minutes and a longitude of 107 degrees 04 minutes. The first settler in Surprise was John Haggerty who arrived in 1867. His son, George Haggerty, also settled in Surprise and operated a rancho until his death in 1862. A post office called "Surprise" was established in 1881, and remained operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1906, the community became part of the United States when it became an unincorporated community within Pinal County. The name "Surprise" originated from General George Armstrong Custer's cavalry column that fought during the Mexican-American War at what is now known as Tombstone Pass on October 20, 1846 near present day Prescott Valley on Arizona's west side. The soldiers were awaiting supplies en route to their war camps south of Tucson when they discovered Native Americans had mined gold there and abandoned their huts for shelter while they looted these stores and equipment across the river near Apache Lake In 1847–48 Colonel James Wickersham led an Anglo-American force consisting of 7 companies (1st Cavalry Regiment) under US Major Robert Ewell against Cochise Indian chief Geronimo at San Buenaventura Creek near Tubac along with 100 mounted Apache warriors led by Chief Washoe after many days' reconnaissance over much needed provisions for Wickersham's army including 36 wagonloadsOf flour brought down from CanadianBG Fort McLeod Via Stagecoach From Tucson via Prescott he destroyed all but 3 buildings on Gila River bridge above where Nacoochee creek flows into Gila before retreating back to fort McLellan which lay 1 mile downstream & 10 miles east New Mexico line

Surprise, Arizona is a small town in the Phoenix metropolitan area. It's located in Maricopa County and has a population of about 30,000 people. The name Surprise was given to the town by Captain John Sutter during his 1847-1848 journey through what is now Phoenix. He named it after an Apache chief named Saca who had been scalped by Spaniards near the river Gila River. At first, the local people thought Sutter was nuts because he would naming something after an animal that had been killed. However, Captain Sutter's story made its way around and soon enough, Surprise had become a thriving community with several stores and two churches. In 1868, when Mormon settlers arrived in Phoenix looking for new land to settle, they also began to search for a new home in which to build their church headquarters. The Mormons were appalled at what they saw as filth and disease on their new homeland so they decided against building in Surprise and instead sent their followers to Utah instead. However, before long, word had reached the Mormons living in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania that someone was looking for them there so they finally decided to move back into Surprise and start anew there in 1870. A few years later another group of Mormons moved here from Ogden City, Utah and renamed it Nauvoo despite being rebuked by Brigham Young for doing so (Nauvoo eventually became part of Chicago). Finally in 1881 when surveyors arrived to map out Arizona Territory with its present boundaries(), Surprise was included within those boundaries making it one of the earliest towns in Arizona!
