The Somerton Coast Guard Station was founded in 1916 and has been a part of the Arizona National Guard ever since. The station originally served as a lighthouse and then became a coast guard station. In 1941, the station was renamed after Lt. Colonel Harry H. Weckenfels who died in World War II. In 1951, the Coast Guard Station moved to its current location and began providing law enforcement services along the Northern Mariana Islands. In 1978, the Coast Guard Station changed its name to Somerton Coast Guard Base and currently provides emergency response services for both ashore and afloat vessels in Coordinated Fisheries Operations off Guam and Saipan. The Somerton Coast Guard Base is one of only two coast guard stations in North America that are designated as an Advanced Life Support Facility with specialties including trauma care, pediatriciatrics, defibrillation, burns treatment, etc.

Somerton, Arizona is a small town located in Pima County, Arizona. The population was 2,813 at the 2000 census. Somerton is one of the few communities in Pima County without a high school. The only other schools in the community areElementary School and Community Hospital. The first settler to arrive in Somerton was James A. Haglund on July 16, 1912. He purchased 640 acres of land from the Apache Indians for $5 per acre. In 1916, Haglund built himself a log cabin which he named "Haglund's Ranch" after himself and his brother-in-law David Haglund who also settled in Somerville that year. In 1930, Don Hildebrandt bought 1/4 mile east of Haglund's Ranch from the Apache Indians for $10 per acre and later founded Hildebrandt Farms with his wife Nellie Mae Hildebrandt and their children Bonnie Joanne (born 1932), Barry Harry (born 1934), Norma Jeanne (born 1936) and Donald Wayne (born 1938). The farm operated until 1984 when it became subdivided into tracts and sold off to individual buyers or Developers who used them as grazing lands or agricultural areas until they were abandoned around 2006 when Pinal County took over management of the area surrounding Somerville Municipal Airport consenting to develop an airport within its boundaries as part of Comprehensive Regional Development Agreement No . 09-007 between Pinal County Superior Court Judge Jerry Garcia Jr., Mayor Donny Toglia and Regional District Manager Jeff McMahill at www2somaeronto1com on 07/24/2009; development commenced immediately upon taking over ownership According to the 2010 United States Census there are 2,813 people living in Somerton with 1,462 households out of which 575 households are farmers operating 357 ranches including 154 cattle ranchers while 711 individuals own no businesses other than farming operations

Somerton is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The community was founded by Mormons in 1881. It initially consisted of just two families and 12 residents. The first post office was established in 1882 and the first store opened in 1886. The name comes from Mormon settlers who named a small stream "Somerton" after their home village of Somerville, England. In 1912, the town had only 50 inhabitants and it had to close its doors due to lack of funding for schools and other civic needs. However, it reopened in 1917 as an agricultural commune with 5 acres (2 hectares) of land designated for farming which still functions today as a community center with several restaurants and services including law enforcement and fire protection. In 1922, Somerton annexed Nacoochee Valley which gave it even more acreage for farming; however this annexation also led to tension between the two communities because Nacoochee Valley is adjacent to Scottsdale while Somerton is located east of Scottsdale on Interstate 10 within Pima County limits. In 1955, following enactment of the Indian Child Welfare Act (), SOMERTON became one of six villages within Pima County that were required to use an Indian child welfare officer instead of their regular county prosecutor when crimes against children occurred within their boundaries; this change represented a major advancement for somerton as compared to earlier years when most cases were handled by regular county prosecutors without involvement by representatives from Village Hall or Village Council members In 1984-1985 SOMERTON again experienced heavy growth due to development around Interstate 10 where many people now live outside the village limits entirely; however controversy erupted over plans for a high school which would have encroached on Village Square Park where there are currently no plans announced or implemented despite heavy opposition from local residents who feel that such a large school would diminish their ability to access education opportunities available outside of town while also impacting tourism revenues directly attributable thereto
Somerset was founded in 1887 by the father of modern day Somerton. The town currently rests on a small farmstead, minutes from the intersection of Route 66 and Interstate 10. Somerset is home to a variety of businesses, including a post office, grain elevator, hotel, and several stores. It has also been known for its annual rodeo which takes place in late summer.
