Sierra Vista, Arizona is a city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1887 by Mormon settlers as a small ranch town on the edge of what is now Flagstaff National Forest. The name Sierra Vista comes from Summit Peak and Mount Washington (1,500 feet (500 m)), both located within the limits of today's city. In 1912, when Pinal County was established and its boundaries were redrawn after Mexican land grants were awarded to ranchers in that area, Sierra Vista became part of Pinal County proper. In the 1920s and 1930s, local farmers began to grow cotton and other crops in what is now downtown Sierra Vista; this led to rapid growth over ensuing decades because of easy access to transportation and markets for goods exported through Tucson. Today's economy is based largely on services provided by businesses such as banks and health care providers; manufacturing has declined since 2000 due to competition from online retailers. On July 14th, 1861, Missouri seceded from the Union and organized its own state government. This event set off a series of events that led to America’s Civil War. Because OF all states, Missouri should have been allowed to become a part of the Union because it was both strengthening our military and aiding in our cause. But because Lincoln believed that northern states were afraid of Confederate expansionism and decided not to let Missouri join forces with his fellow northern states, 4 million men volunteered their services – including many from Missouri – in order TO fight for their home state instead! This is how we get our name: The National Guard! Since then, The National Guard has performed countless duties throughout our country. From protesting at major league baseball games (to show your support for your favorite team!) to guarding schools and nuclear plants, we have always stood ready and willing to help out where ever our duty may call us. Sierra Vista is a town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,568 at the 2010 census. The name Sierra Vista is derived from the Spanish word "Sierra," meaning "mountain." In 1885, John Wesley Powell and his brother-in-law George Smith founded the town of Sierra vista on land that they had acquired from the Apache people. The first post office opened in 1886. The townsite was platted in 1885 by John Wesley Powell and George Smith while exploring northwestern Arizona for potential sites for a national railroad. On July 5, 1886, the two men met with local representatives to declare their land alloted to Sierra Vista as part of Grant's Mill District #2. It was not until 1888 when an official plat was filed with Pima County that residents could begin development of their new community. The first businesses in Sierra Vista were cattle stations operated by ranchers interested in supplying their herds with fresh meat during the harsh winter months. By 1893, there were five businesses operating within the boundaries of present day Sierra Vista. Businesses quickly began expanding into other industries such as agriculture and manufacturing; however, it would be another decade before any large scale housing development occurred within the limits of town confines In 1928 services were offered through Area Hire Caravan Company which Located along US 97 between Show Low Ariz and Phoenix Maricopa Counties Service area
Sierra Vista, Arizona was founded in 1867 by David Glasscock and his wife, Eliza. The town was named after the Sierra Madre Mountains to the east. Glasscock worked as a surveyor for the United States Geological Survey and built a cabin in the area in 1868. He also developed a ranch which he used to farm land and sell goods to local farmers. By 1870, Glasscock had ten children living in Sierra Vista. In 1875, he married into an established family of ranchers near Phoenix. The Glasscocks continued to live in Sierra Vista until their death in 1912.
